I wish you the best of luck. I've been chewing Copenhagen for 20 + years, its one heck of a habit to break.

Re: Trying to quit dipping and only focus on cigars

I dipped snuff from the time I was 13 untill about a year ago (I'm 20 now). I just straight up quit. Everytime I was at the gas station and wanted to buy a can I bought a pack of gum instead. Granted in the first two weeks I chewed a shitload of gum, it was worth it. The main reason I had to quit was cost.

$6 per can x cans per day= $84 a week on snuff

Have you been trying to quit? If your ready to quit I am sure we could help each other out by holding each other accountable for it. We both know it's a hard habit to break and will most likely not be done cold turkey. I plan to slowly but surely lower the number of times I dip each day. I guess I will have to see how that works.

Good luck with quiting. I stopped several years ago but occasionally enjoy a dip for various reasons, but You can stop, I promise you will find a way. and just think how much more of the slope will be available with the extra mooolllaaa!

Re: Trying to quit dipping and only focus on cigars

I've been chewing snuff for a good 30 years. I tried to quit a few times and people begged me to start chewing again.
I'm convinced that the only way I can quit is if I kill myself, and I have too much to do, so that's not gonna work either.
I hope you can come up with something, cause it's tough.

Re: Trying to quit dipping and only focus on cigars

I quit, what I did every time I wanted a dip was smoked a 5 Vegas shorty. They are quick and take the nicotine want out of it. Slowly I just stopped thinking about dip and thought more about cigars. I eat a lot of sunflower seeds and chew a lot of gum takes the oral fixation out of it.

Go online, find a picture of someone with a tounge or lower jaw removed, print it, cut it into a small circle, and place it in your can so you have to go under it to get your dip.

Every time you want a dip, just take a dip of dirt straight from the ground. Really. Try it a couple times.......

Hoping you quit!

Re: Trying to quit dipping and only focus on cigars

Cigarettes are hard enough to quit,I think Clem had the right idea.

Someone start a "Quit Dip" support thread in the general discussion forum.A bunch of us did a thread for quitting cigs and I think all of us actually did quit.

Re: Trying to quit dipping and only focus on cigars

From a post in a thread from last year:
I chewed Skoal for 40 years. Quit 3 years ago. It was $.25/can when I started and, I think $ 4.25/can when I quit. I love Skoal but dare not take even one dip or I would be instantly hooked. I guess the main reason I quit is it bothered me that it had such a hold on me. The only time I didn't have a dip was when eating or sleeping. I even used the little "baggies" when my two daughters were married so I wouldn't have loose stuff on my teeth. I was really hooked.

I have zero cravings for it now but I think, when they wheel my bu** into the care home, I'm going to have a roll of Skoal hidden under my "blankie".

WyoBob

I quit cold turkey. After 3 days, the physical craving was gone. The habit of having something in my lip continues to this day. I use mint chew from Oregon Mint Snuff Co. (around $2.00/can and lasts me a week or two) when I get the craving to "pack". Otherwise, I chew gum.

There have been several threads on quitting chew. Good luck quitting. I've read where chew is as addictive as cocaine. I believe it. Anyone who can quit dipping has my respect.

I've got to give it up too. Got a kid on the way and the wife says no more. Plus, it's just nasty and not good for me. Personally, I think it is more addictive than cigarettes. Good luck to us all.

i was a part of this group-had a few "slips" in the beginning, but going strong now-a lot of people substitute something for what they're quitting, for me i used cigars & took up pipe smoking-now i use nasal snuff when i can't smoke, works well for me-people say it's just as addicting, but i can take it or leave it, might work for you too-good luck
