I guess I don't blame them, not many young people enjoy cigars, so I'd be a little wary if I were them too.

No because the first time that I go in to a B&M I look nice, shirt tucked in nice pair of pants I just try to look good to make a good impression. Then after awhile when they start to recognize you it is great you can just stand there and talk for hours. One other thing that I do is spend 75-100 bucks my first time in there if I can.

That's true enough. It takes a few visits and a general knowledgeable demeanor to deter the patronizing feel.

If so, what else would I need besides a puck? I'm guessing a hygrometer, at least for my peace of mind (as I have NO idea what the hell I'm doing, and probably couldn't tell a Cuban from a bubblegum cigar if you asked me that was too corny, sorry)

Anyway, I'm looking for a small airtight cooler, really, really cheap. I've got a box of old cigar boxes (lol) I bought years ago for a craft project and never used, I'd probably layer the bottom with cedar sticks, maybe do rows if that was OK for the smokes (but I'd fear poor circulation)?

But a couple members have been nice enough to offer me some starter samplers, so at the moment, I'm just trying to save money and make this endeavor as painless as possible for a newbie.

Good stuff though, I've been reading an eBook from cheaphumidors.com, and this could prove to be a worthwhile investment if I let it be.

Hey Buddy,

I'm more of a fan of the coolers that have a lid that opens up 90 degrees. I think they provide more of a seal than the slide top playmates. Use the Playmate for the beer. Have a look at your local Sunday paper to see if anyone is discounting coolers (Wal-Mart, Target, etc).

Yes you will need a hygrometer as well. I would pick one up with an online cigar purchase and humidifier purchase to help offset shipping costs.

Good call, thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I upgrade. For now, I'm going to go cheap as I can.

I've got a couple members offering me some starter cigars, so I'm getting about ten or so come August.

Can I get away with a Tupperdor for now? I plan on buying a puck from cigarmony, could I just velcro that to the underside of the lid?

I think that'll do nicely for single boxes when/if I have them, and I can reuse the tupperware for a humidifier in my cooler later, or so I've been told on one or two sites.

What'll you all think?

A tupperdore will work fine. What ever you decide on, it needs to have a good seal to keep the humidity in. A igloo Playmate would not be a good option for that.

No, I didn't think so, but the small size was appealing, so this will be better. As I've said, I can't get to a tobacconist too often, so I won't have many cigars all at one, necessitating a larger humidor.

I did see a guy on Youtube that took a wine fridge for storage, keeping the cigars in humi-packs. Really a good idea it seems.

lol I doubt it I ordered cigarettes for a friend once through the mail...skipped taxes and ordered them from the Ukraine. If I can do that, I think I can pull off some cigars.

Does anyone know the legality of mail-order tobacco in PA?

Anything goes pretty much. When you are ordering from Famous, Holts, CI etc. since they are all based in PA you do have to pay sales tax (if you are shipping to a PA address)
