Are Cuban cigars available for sale in the Dominican Republic? I assume they are. I'm not looking to obtain anything illegally for here in the states, but Dom. Republic is a anniversary vacation possibility that my wife mentioned. I also dont know much about Cuban cigars, never having smoked one. What are some good brands, what should I expect to pay in D.R, and will they be widely available there? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yea theyre available... but legit ones arent too easy to come by.. whatever you do stay away from the boxes with the glass tops.. theyll be sold all over the beach

Having been to the Dominican Republic several times, I would recommend that if you wish to obtain THOSE cigars you look elsewhere, instead I would just bring my own.

I wouldn't bother. Take your own smokes and just about every "cuban" cigar you will see will be fake. Besides, it's still illegal for US citizens to buy them if even if you are out of the country, as dumb as it is.

Since you've only been smoking cigars for 3 months or so (I read your intro thread), I would recommend you smoke Dominican cigars while in the DR. Your smoking experience will be much more enjoyable. Why stress over the authenticity of Cuban cigars (which will likely be fake) when you can smoke and enjoy real Dominicans?

I've heard you can't even get genuine Fuentes in the DR muchless cubans. Best to bring your own or frequent the LCDH if they even have one.

When they offer you real Cuban cigars for a "special price just for you mister" be sure to ask if their mother is a virgin because you really want a virgin to go with those Cubans.

If you're in Santo Domingo and make it to Boca Chica beach, a guy named Darren from Boston runs a great Italian restaurant at the end and has a large humidor with lots of good Dominican and Cuban cigars and great food. They're all genuine.

I heard he recently split up with his Dominican wife whose father is an important guy down there so he may be gone, knowing the laws of the Banana Republic.

Very interesting guy to say the least who I'll always remember saying, "the only thing that's easy in the DR is the women."

If I was planning your itinerary, I'd say you should just hop a flight from Santo Domingo and head right for Havana.
