Vacation Bliss

So money has been devastatingly tight for the past several months and the stogie supply has been steadily dwindling. Developing family issues have combined with it all has caused stress to mount at an astronomical rate.

Every year, for the 4th we travel to Seattle to visit relatives, but this year, money just did not permit that and quite honestly, seeing the other half's side of the family is like walking into a lion's den (with me being a gimp Gazelle). Needing to get away from the reality of life, I searched online and blindly picked a spot for camping.

Although not really able to afford it, I decided for this trip I would go and buy one cigar that I could take along with me for a special smoke, so I went to the local B&M and he recommended an LFD Cameroon Cabinet. I am not sure as to the particular name of the cigar, but I believe it was a 6 1/4 X 54. At any rate, I walked out of the B&M feeling guilty for making the purchase, but nonetheless excited to give it a try and knowing that I deserved it.

I loaded up the LFD, one HDM Gov. Maduro and 3 Bock y Ca and put them in a baggie with some humi beads and set sights for Humboldt Redwoods State Park. For those of you who have never been there....Wow! There is a level of natural beauty that no words could ever do justice.

My campsite was completely surrounded by towering redwoods. There was not another tent or camper within sight. It was as if we were the only campers in the entire park. Although the temperatures above the canopy were in the mid 90's, the temperatures under the canopy remained at a comfortable mid 70's. It was in a word, peaceful.

Each night, after putting the kids to bed in the tent, I pulled up my chair, lit a campfire, lit a stogie and cracked a beer. I took it slow and savored every single draw for an hour and a half to two hours each night. There was no cell coverage, no electricity....Just me, my beer, my campfire, nature at its purest and my stogies.

I realized that I have never been able to sit back, without stress, or worry and truly enjoy a cigar without interruption. I was so incredibly relaxed smoking there, that I found myself actually starting to nod off in mid draw (most notably with the LFD). For those few hours each night, I was allowed to drift into a euphoria that was stress-free and simply perfect. I smoked each cigar to the nub and then offered the nubs to the campfire Gods.

I will not do a review of the individual cigars, as the setting and experience made each one absolutely perfect. I cannot remember ever having a more personally satisfying and peaceful time as I did each evening.

Sunday afternoon, we headed back to reality...I will never be able to recreate that setting, but I am hoping that someway, somehow I will be able to recreate the experience at home. I have a new-found respect for the Bock y Ca and am just thankful I have a few left to enjoy.

Thanks for listening to the banter. It was nice to talk about it and relive it...even if it was just in text.

Jim

Re: Vacation Bliss

Thanks for sharing this. Peaceful is a good feeling. We all have a lot of stress, noise, responsibilites, committments, duties, etc and never take the time to simply enjoy a quiet time. Glad that you had a good vacation.

Re: Vacation Bliss

I have to say that sounds great! I believe that very little compares to the relaxation of a cigar and the great outdoors. Way to take advantage of that, and reminding us of how great it can be!

Re: Vacation Bliss

That's what it's all about, brother. I think I enjoy the occasion of smoking cigars moreso than actually smoking them. It's relaxing and you can kind of release from the world for an hour or two [without straying away from simple tobacco and nicotine].
