cant see the reason for buying brand names
ok i've been smokin long enough now, even though im a newbie to this cigar forum, to firmly come to this conviction...i can in no ways see a reason to pay for top NAMED cigars, when there are so many house brand or lesser name brands that are far less expensive, and just as consistent and flavorful as the top NAMED brands.
I compare it to food shopping where you could buy the Del Monte, or Van de kamps green beans for $3.00 a can or you could buy the VONS brand for .89 cents... am i alone in this conviction or are there others who have found there favorite stick to be there cheapies? clark |

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
I like the named brands more so, but there are plenty of house blends that I like. But each man has his own taste. It's ok to like the cheap cigars if you do! There's a reason that there are so many cigars.
Have you tried the cigar.com house blends? Those are pretty good and cheap too. All of them are made in some of the best cigar factories; I think there might be a Don Pepin one too. |

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
I buy from $2 to a very occasional $15 stick. I worry less about the name and more about how it smokes andtastes. It might have a popular name or not.... my .02

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
We have a local roller in Toronto who imports the cuban leaf. They roll their own house blend and make them for stores, businesses, etc. I even had some made for me with a cool monogram. Its actually better than many $5+ smokes I've tried.

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
I know I am new but as long as your happy it doesn't really matter how much it cost. But you shouldn't smoke something just because it's cheap. As long as it is good to you

A bundle of Tampa Sweethearts are a good example of Fuentes at a discounted rate. It's like getting a haircut at a barber college. Newbies, but a haircut none-the-less.

I like Green Giant!
From what I've been hearing, LTC is making some really great cigars. While the prices aren't exactly "budget", they come very highly rated, especially the Sabor Cubano. http://www.tradicion.com/

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
There are many "House" brands and less expensive, bundle type cigars that I enjoy and include in my normal smoking habbits, but there are also several top-shelf and premium brands that I smoke just as often or moreso.
If every premium cigar had an equally consistant and tasty, yet way less expensive counterpart, every cigar company out there would fold under. It's all about what each individual smoker enjoys. ![]()

Re: cant see the reason for buying brand names
I agree with what a lot of others have said. There are some smaller or house brands out there that offer a great smoke at a low end price. I'm not afraid to say I enjoy the hell out of some CFOs or Consuegras(typo?) I also enjoy the hell out of some premiums too. I usually smoke the cheaper stuff when I am trying to get a smoke in that may be a little rushed or while out doing work in the yard etc. The times where I may not be paying as close of attention to what I am smoking. I usually will bypass these smokes when I know I will have some down time and really get to sit and savor and really enjoy my cigar though. Like a Friday or Saturday night out on the back patio with the wife and a good drink for example. In these cases I would rather grab a Tat or Pepin etc etc rather than a CFO or some other bargain stick. Some house brands smoke just as well as premiums but most of the time from my experience they are priced accordingly. Like the De LA Concha house blends or Taboo blends. These are just as good as a super premium but for the most part they are priced in the $5-$8 range which does not put their price point uber cheap. Like others have said, if you enjoy the hell out of the cheaper stuff and can smoke those exclusively I am very envious and if it's what you enjoy than who cares who makes it. As long as it's bring you the joy and relaxation that a ultra rare premium may bring someone else that is all that matters.
