I'm not an Elder by any means, but...

Shop around before you bid. The prices used to be really good, but lately they have been high on a lot of stuff.

Good advice! Make a habit to check on the regular price on an item before you bid... some folks get caught up in wanting to "win" so badly they they give in to stupidity.

ALSO - take your credit cards, put them in a small rubbermaid tub of water - and place it in your freezer. That should keep you from going totally out of control and destroying your budget.

Nice to know that exists. How up to date is it? I searched a few things and it seems to not show auctions since May.

Advice...weekly shipping....bid on auctions that end during the week....buy a big cooler....stick to 5ers until you decide if you like something or not.

Re: The Slippery Slope

I'm a long way from being a silverback, but...one thing I do before bidding is open a window to at least one other cigar site (I often use CI since the two are affiliated). I check the prices against each other and if the Devil Site bid is more than two-thirds of the CI price I pass. I also try to bid on things that contain a good number of lots (less bid inflation that way, but it does limit my selection). Lots of three or less tend to get bid up pretty quickly. I stay away from autobid. I bid what I want to pay and if I get beat out, so be it.

I have won one auction. It was for a Rocky Patel bundle that contained 20 cigars, including five each of the Vintage 1990 and Vintage 1992 blends, plus Reo and Vibe sticks. I paid a little over two bucks per stick when the dust settled. There were 150 lots, so I was pretty much assured of winning.

Re: The Slippery Slope

Once you have placed a bid you feel is a good price and you get out bid by someone else walk away. Chances are those same cigars will be back on the site sometime soon.

-MG- did a great job on the site, and I can't say if he plans on updating it, or if it updates periodically. Try to PM -MG- and see what he says. Other than that, the site gives you a good reference for what has been paid (and what shouldn't have been paid for that fact) on bid items.

P.S.- Some good advice to Devil Site= No Drunk Bidding.

Doesn't auto bid just increase your bid by small increments until it reaches your "max bid." I think it's a great feature if i understand how it works correctly. That way you can bid on a particular selection and make a decision from the very beginning, "i won't spend more than $100 for a box of this cigar." Then auto bid takes care of your bidding for you, up to your max bid.
