Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

Years ago during the Cigar Boom days the green label PI's were not too bad. When I got back into it again a few years ago I bought a box of the Viejas and was REALLY dissapointed. I still have 2/3 of them aging to see if they improve. To add insult to injury they were about half expensive to boot!!

There are many, MANY better sticks out there ........ I'd pass on the PI's.

Frank, knowing how similar our tastes are I definitely trust your judgment. Thanks to all who responded to this. The consensus seems overwhelmingly tilted toward passing, so that is what I am doing.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

Gentlemen,

Although your assessments of our Puros Indios line of cigars has not been 'gentle' by any stretch of the imagination, I cannot argue with your opinions. As a matter of fact, the beauty of the cigar world is that one man's treasure can definitely be another man's trash. As a manufacturer, we never like to hear insulting remarks about our cigars. We value and welcome your input and that is why we are very active on various online forums. Justin, one of our representatives, offered to send samples of our new blends to those of you who chimed in on this thread. The offer still stands. I also feel that unless I try a particular cigar, no one can tell me in a definitive way, whether I will enjoy the cigar or not. Plain and simple, a big part of the 'fun' surrounding cigars is constantly trying new stuff and not having to break the bank while doing it.

That being said, our company has undergone some big changes within the last year. One of those was the promotion of Rolando Reyes' Grandson, Carlos, to company president. Given control, Carlos created a couple of new blends under a new company name - Reyes Family Cigars. I'd love to hear feedback from you guys regarding these new cigars. Please email me your address & handle.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

We have a rep from the Reyes Family who's offering to send new sticks in the mail to all that feel they were "wronged". THAT is great business.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I haven't had a whole of experience with Puros Indios cigars but for one large green-banded pyramide honker. I didn't find it dissapointing at all, but it was nothing special - not a go-to cigar for me, but nothing that wronged me.

I'll definitely give some of the new blends a shot - I'm always down for a new cigar to try.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I just smoked the first of the three cigars sent to me. I tried the Premier gordo. Since the smokes were offered for free in response to this thread I wanted to post a quickie review here as I promised that I would.

It wasn't a bad cigar at all. It smoked perfectly with no uneven burn and it held the ash. I would say it was on the mild to medium side but others may disagree. I smoke 4-5 very strong cigars every day so take that for what it's worth.

Again, as with previous Puros Indios cigars I think it's fine for what it is but it doesn't have the complexity that I like in my cigars. And please don't take that as an insult because the majority of cigar smokers would probably enjoy this on a regular basis. I'm just looking for a particular flavor profile in my cigars and this one lacks that punch (for lack of a better word).

It was very consistent. The taste was the same from the moment I lit it until I sat it down with less than 2 inches remaining. That's not a bad thing but not exactly what I'm looking for. I like a cigar that develops as I smoke it.

I guess to sum up I appreciate the free sticks. That was a great offer and one that will probably allow me to recommend PI to my friends. But for me it's just not a cigar that I will probably go to.

All that being said I'll try the other two and report back if my findings are different.

Thanks again for the sticks.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I have a bundle of Los Gordos (6x60) that I keep for camping that I enjoy. Of all the PI blends I have every tried, it is the only one I care for. The rest taste cheap.
