Opinions on Puros Indios?

I received an e-mail from Cigars International with their special of the week: Puros Indios Reserva Maxima Presidente, a box of 20 for $29.99. I have never smoked one of these, and I am wondering whether this is a good deal. CI claims that these are 90-rated, but I know how cigar sellers are. They can make the worst dog rocket on the planet sound like the tastiest stick ever made.

I am interested in the opinions of those who have tried these.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I've liked the Maxima Reservas and Viejos lines in the media corona and robusto sizes respectively, only other vitola I've had was some PCs (Maxima Reserva) and they were rank, very rank. I let them sit 6 months, still rank, 12 months, still rank... dumpster!

I've never seen a brand that inspired the CS vomit smileys more often.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I used to like Puros Indios....don't care for most of em any more. I'm not sure if it is a transition cigar, or if the brand has gone downhill in recent years.

I still like the Cuba Aliados line & have a partial box of corojo toros in my humi.

The Presidente has never received a 90-rating. CI does this all the time. If one size gets a 90-rating they apply that to the ad copy on every size they sell forever. As we all know one size in a line can be great and another can be a dog rocket. It's not fair to claim every stick is a 90 when only two have been rated that high.

The robusto got a 90 in Oct '04 and the corona got a 90 in Dec '02. The line was most recently reviewed 3 years ago when the Churchill got an 85 and the Toro got an 86. The Presidente has never been rated.

Personally, I've never found a Puro Indios that I've enjoyed. I know some people like them but to me it's just a very bland tobacco flavor with very little taste.

It is a good price but even at $29.99 I'd get a fiver of something else.

Not a very good cigar. Good enough, if that's all you have.

Thanks for the info. I've had two resting for about 6 months now, I guess I 'll let them keep resting.

Re: Opinions on Puros Indios?

I have never had these but for some reason, most around here seem to universally not care for them. Hell, I don't even care if I never try them at this point. Way to many other smokes to try.

Step 1: Dunk in toilet
Step 2: Flush.

Repeat as necessary.

Yep, they're awful (to me anyway).
