Tatuaje Black Label, Ruined?
Last night I lit up a tatuaje black and found it to be fairly harsh tasting, nothing like what has been described by many others. I've let them sit in my Vino for at least a month to get some rest too.
When these sticks were delivered to my house the mail carrier decided to put them in my mailbox rather than leaving them up at the front door (first time ever for a USPS package!). That day just happened to be the only 100+ degree day here in Portland, Oregon so far this year. Unfortunately they cooked in that oven of a mailbox for about 2 hours before I realized what had happened. The 3 sticks were spongy and smelled very strong when I took them out of the mailbox, but I assumed they were fine. The question I pose to anyone who may know... are my remaining sticks ruined? ![]() |

Re: Tatuaje Black Label, Ruined?
I don't think 2 hours will do much. I leave my sticks in my car on a hot day for longer then that.
Mine were also spongy and smelled real strong. I would go for a replay. ![]()

Re: Tatuaje Black Label, Ruined?
If I understand what you are saying, the cigars could have very well have reached 130° temps inside the metal box, that combined with a high shipping RH could have "cooked" the cigars and changed the profile.
It was a wise move to give them a month long rest as you did, especially after the trauma. If you smoke another with the same results, perhaps they where damaged. But fortunately it was only 3 cigars. Order another 3 when you get the chance, smoke those and your analysis will be complete provided the temps don't rise again. Let us know how the next one does. ![]()

Re: Tatuaje Black Label, Ruined?
I've had many packages 'cook' in the mailbox or on the front porch here in FL and I've never had a bad experience(yet)(knock on wood)!! Of course with the high temps we get often, I always freeze mine and let them sit in the humi for at least a month. On a side note-I don't know what your flavor/strength cigar you like, but when I fired up my first Black Tat, I described the first inch or so as -smoking a pack of Camel cigarrettes-it was that harsh. It then became an enjoyable smoke. Try another-don't give up on them yet!!

I say put the rest back for a few more months and then see where they are. |

Re: Tatuaje Black Label, Ruined?
My T-Blacks didn't cook at all as my packages are delivered inside but they definitely had a very strong fragrance (not bad, just strong and a bit different). Haven't had one yet as they've been resting for a week. I know a week probably isn't enough, but I may fire one up tonight to finally see if I like them enough to buy more if I get the chance.
