Re: Thompson Cigar wtf?

I almost got sucked in by one of their ads in the back of a magazine.

After reading all of these replies and horror stories, I'm happy I did not.

I enjoy their false representation of cigars, stating it is from one country, but it is really from another.

If they did that to me, I would never order from them again, not that I have ordered from them in like 7+ years.

Re: Thompson Cigar wtf?

Thompson's sure have an interesting marketing plan. I'd hate to have a business that depends on getting new customer's on a daily basis because you've pi**ed off the customer's you made yesterday. Why not have reasonable prices and good, honest service and keep the customer's your advertising dollars have brought in?

I did business with them 18-19 years ago. They made one cigar I liked and I smoked a lot of them - maduro "Wellington's". Then the boom hit and this cigar I'd smoked for a year or so changed blends and tasted horrible. I dropped Thompson's and switched to the then new, C.I. As I remember, their selection of cigars was a couple of printed, 8x11 pages.

i wish there was something that all of the smokers who are united in their hatred of thompson could do about the place...a massive boycott (except we pretty much already do that) or something. damn

Thanks. I learned it from my Dad.

Dad is a retired Southern Baptist minister & when Jehovah's Witness comes to his door, he invites em in & says let's sit down & see what this book really says.

They generally don't stay for coffee.

No offense to any Jehovah's Witness BOTL that we may have on the board.

Re: Thompson Cigar wtf?

I placed an order - one - with them just over a year ago. The calls finally stopped in June. At first it was almost every day, and it gradually slowed down. My order hadn't even arrived when the telemarketing calls started. Never again. I don't understand the logic of a company that believes they are going to badger me into doing business with them.

Having spent the first eighteen years of my life in that MISGUIDED religion, I can say decisively that a good Jehovah's Witness would never even consider smoking a cigar, or celebrating a holiday.

Re: Thompson Cigar wtf?

I realize I may be a day late and a dollar short in my take in this but here goes... When ordering from anywhere (not just cigar companies but ANYWHERE) they may ask for a phone number. If it's not "required" to process the order don't give it out. Look for the little asterisk or different color font to denote what is required info and what is "optional". Even if it's "required" try to submit the order without it and see if it gets kicked back. You can even put in a phoney number (ie. 555-555-5555 or something)... the little box just needs to be filled. Also look for the little "we may occasionally(HA!) provide your info to marketing partners" box... either check it or uncheck it to let them know you don't want your info released.

I have ordered from Thompson in the past... never had a problem with them. I know now that better prices can be found elsewhere. My biggest beef with them is that that they show you a sampler but unless it specifically states "you will get 2-brand X, 2-brand Y and 2-brand Z" they reserve the right to substitute... so if you really wanted to try a specific cigar and it's in the sampler ad/pic you may not get it afterall. Yeah, yeah, yeah... there is a little icon at the bottom of the ad that, after searching around, you find out means "we reserve the right to substitute" but it's seems kind of "bait and switch" to me. Caveat Emptor!!
