This is the key to cutting down your chances of getting sick from an increased level of nicotine. Building a tolerance is also a benefit when combatting the side effcts of this drug (yes it is a drug). And I also need to clarify something- nicotine releases insulin, which in turn will decrease blood sigar levels, which in turn can cause hypoglycemia- this my friends can cause dizzyness/giddiness, daiphoresis (sweating) and an upset tummy. So while a quick sugar fix (candy) will help with symptoms, try eating a snack 30 minutes before starting your smoke and make sure it has some protein in it (peanuts/meat/etc.) since this will break down slower than a simple sugar and possibly protect you from the hypoglycemic effects of nicotine longer- helpful with the slow steady smokes last 1+ Hr. If your nicotine/insulin/blood sugar levels are outstripping the breakdown of protein then go back to the old faithful candy. Hope this helps...

I suppose you could also just stop smoking cigars, but nobody likes a quitter!

Re: It was bound to happen...

My first Opus X after only 3-4 months of smoking cigars. To top it off I was on an empty stomach. After feeling like that it took me almost a year to try one again. A whole box of sticks in the humi that I was scared to touch, now I can't get enough

The only time I have had this feeling was from an RP Edge Corojo, many moons ago.
Straight sugar will go almost instantly into the bloodstream and you should feel better in a few minutes.
hmm, i've never seen to run into a problem with JDN Antano''s I've got about half a box in my coolerdor...it was full hehe then again its a robusto and the cigar i got sick off of was 6.5" compared to 4.5" at roughly the same RG, maybe thats why?

meh who knows, I'll def drink a sugary drink while smoking from now on thats for sure

Brother you just need to sip on a couple cans of RC Cola while smoking, you'll be fine, and the nic buzz will be there just slightly enough to make you feel good

That's why I drink sweet tea, coffee, or jack and coke with my cigars. The sugar kills the nic buzz.

Interesting... Do you have a link to some study on this, because from what I've read, nicotine releases cortisol and inhibits the release of insulin. That would lead to a dramatic increase in the blood sugar levels.

Quote:
Nicotine and Insulin

Nicotine also inhibits the release of insulin from the pancreas, a hormone that is responsible for removing excess sugar from a person's blood. This leaves the smoker in a slightly hyperglycemic condition, meaning he has more sugar in his blood than is normal. High blood sugar acts as an appetite suppressant, which may be why smokers think their cigarettes reduce hunger.
From http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/nico...ineeffects.htm

EDIT: Found some more stuff in relation to this.

Quote:
Nicotine poisoning causes vomiting and nausea, headaches, difficulty breathing, stomach pains and seizures. Each of these symptoms can be traced back to excessive stimulation of cholinergic neurons. People poisoned by organophosphate insecticides experience the exact same symptoms. With organophosphates, acetylcholine builds up at synapses and overstimulates the neurons. Because nicotine is so similar to acetylcholine, and binds to cholinergic receptors, nicotine in excess produces the same overstimulation and toxicity. The more nicotine binding to the nicotinic cholinergic receptors, the more acetylcholine is subsequently released and free to activate other subsets of cholinergic receptors.

Re: It was bound to happen...

lets just say i was a "little" buzzed on captian during a party and i was close to my humidor, i was dumb and smoked one robo and then a churchill, granted they were both milds but i was feeling fine so 30mins later i went for another churchill, bad idea, halfway thru i felt sick as all hell with a rumbling stomach, wobbled myself to bed and tried best i could to sleep, after some of the pain went away i slept like a baby
