It was bound to happen...

I finally got sick off of a cigar.

It was a Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Toro. I smoked about 3/4 of it and i was loving it. Although i started buzzing halfway through i kept going...bad move on my part. i buzzed for the better part of the hour, and then i just got sick... felt like i was throwing up after drinking too much booze.

A lil pepto and a LOOOONG nap put me back on my feet but man was my stomach weak...

i just thought i would share with the jungle
anyone else have a similar story recently

PS - hopefully this is the right forum

Next time just sip Root Beer...the sugar will help you pace through the cigar.

Re: It was bound to happen...

The same thing happened to me with a Monte #2 the other night. I though the beers were gettingto me about half way in, so I stopped drinking. When I finished the cigar I was laying on the groung sick as a dog for about a half an hour. Then I was able to drag myself into the kitchen and eat some ice cream to even myself out. it was a great cigar but not a good experience.

Re: It was bound to happen...

First cigar that ever kicked my butt and got me feeling that sick was a Tat Rc 184 early in the afternoon on an empty stomach. I was green and had that mouth watering feeling for hours even after some sugar. I now enjoy that cigar from time to time but after a hearty meal!Took me almost 6 months to try another one because I couldn't get that sick feeling outta my head every time I picked one up.

601 green gave me a lesson in slower smoking. I did not get sick but it was close.

Sugar will help counteract the effects of nicotine. Drinking a sugar(not diet) drink while smoking is one way. Others keep candy close at hand. Eating a full meal before smoking a strong stick also helps, especially when you start messing around with big boy smokes like Litto's, LFD's or Joya's! The only time I have had this feeling was from an RP Edge Corojo, many moons ago.
Straight sugar will go almost instantly into the bloodstream and you should feel better in a few minutes.

I'm a noobie to this site and pretty much to the great world of cigar smoking also.

I'm finding that I do prefer full bodied maduro cigars most of all. However, at times I do certainly get the nicotine buzz that I really don't find all that enjoyable. The queeziness, sweating, etc. I've never gotten sick but I do wonder at times why the hell I'm spending my hard earned $$$ to feel like shit for an hour or so.

For the most part I absolutely enjoy my smokes (just finished a Punch Chateau L Maduro) and feel fine. But with the many posts I read where smokers feel sick after a strong cigar I wonder if anyone else sometimes questions themselves if its really all worth it?

That's kinda strange, since nicotine intake will *increase* the blood sugar levels. Nicotine makes the body produce cortisol, which increases both blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Re: It was bound to happen...

It happened to me the other night for the first time that i can remember.....I usually smoke 2-3 cigars a day and prefer full bodied smokes.

It was about 10:00PM and it was my 3rd ( and last!) cigar of the day. A LFD Double Ligero, special release, 6 3/4 x 47, with the pigtail head. Man, about half way through I started getting a little light-headed and then about 3/4 way through the sick stomach feeling started coming on (at this point the cigar was laid down) I never did throw up, but I sure felt bad for about and hour. This thing must have been loaded with Nicotene.

It will be awhile before I tackle another one of these babies! And if i start getting that light-headed feeling I will let that be a warning to pt the stick down, then maybe it won't progress to the sick stomach feeling.
