Sorry for your loss. Smoke a cigar and remember the good times. And make new good times with a dog in need of a good home.

Sorry for your loss. Very touching comments, and I think your way of honoring him is fitting, and will help another dog.

Re: Looking for a new smoking buddy.

I cried like a baby when we had to put down our Golden a few years ago. I still cry when I stumble across that Rainbow Bridge poem someone came up with.

Just to make some of you well up as well....here it is.

[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Seriously, I can't read that without tearing up.

Re: Looking for a new smoking buddy.

Believe me I know the loss. It opens up a void that is hard to fill just because of those precious moments you shared together. And a lot of time those moments may be overlooked.

I was at my son's house this past weekend sitting on his deck enjoying a fine stogie, and I had the priceless company of their family pooch-hound. He sat in the chair next to me and watched my every draw and release as if to say, "see..life aint so bad after all"......

I realized reading this post how special those few moments spent were.....

I am truly sorry for your loss as well....

Re: Looking for a new smoking buddy.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I have lost a few great pets over the years and the best way I have found to get over the sorrow is to put your love into another pet, and good for you for planing on rescuing another dog. There is no forgeting a beloved pet, but at least you can remember the good times.

Re: Looking for a new smoking buddy.

I'm sorry for your loss. I feel a little guilty for taking my dogs for granted so often. You finish work and are just too tired to play. We gotta take advantage of all the moments with them that we can.
