Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.

It is listed as an acceptable item on the TSA website, so I suppose you could call/write them and get compensated for the improper confiscation. Probably not worth it, but I would do it if they were the slightest bit "impolite" about taking it - I have run into some downright nasty TSA folks out there.

Mine was too. Maybe they only take $30+ lighters and cutters

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.

I had a nice cutter taken away from me once in Miami.

Long story short, they are allowed but if security wants to take them away they can as each airport can go beyond the printed lists given out by the Federal Govt.

Turns out MIA was trying to improve its ranking as it consistently ranks towards the bottom...

And I forgot to add congrats on getting her going in the right direction, if she signs on - introduce her to us all so we can greet her properly!

I've got two hip replacements and get to go to the special line every time at every airport so I don't even try any more it isn't worth it plus it gives me an excuse to seek out a B&M were ever I go to purhcase a cheapy.

Nice gift Ideas way to spoil her

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.

The only thing I could think of is, that because it is a plastic cutter, it could be broken apart and the blade could be removed. With a metal cutter, this is much harder to do on an airliner at 40,000 feet.
Doesn't make it any less stupid.

It sounds like they deserve to stay at the bottom of the heap.

This is the kind of "policy" that will keep the ACLU in business for a long time.

My rule--don't bring a lighter or cutter to the airport if they cost more than two bucks.

:-(

Great plan it is never worth arguing with the screeners. I worked for the army watching security at airports from OCT01-SEP02 and found the rules chainged alot and was amased at the things people had to throw out and the ones who would cause a argument over a pack of matches or the cork screw thay took from the hotel minibar.

I just went through security yesterday and someone in line asked about lighters. The TSA response was that non-torch, butane lighters were acceptable. Also, I got questioned about a punch I have on my key chain, but once they looked at it closer they let it through, no problem.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.

I've never had anyone question me about my keychain. I always make a very tiny fuss and explain... My keychain is more of a weapon than blah, blah, blah... They always give that "We've heard that a million times, sir" look. Yeah, well...

I'm not kidding though. I have a keychain kubaton on it, much like the one in the link. It has *never* been looked at or anything.

If someone tried to hijack a plane tonight using one of those travel toothbrushes... They'd be banned in the morning. Fear and ignorance are the detriment of mankind.

Going into the latrine for a #2 and tossing it around in the cabin is more dangerous to the health and safety of the crew and passangers than a cigar cutter. I better not say that though... They'll be performing preflight enemas before we all know it!

I'd do it anyways just on principle....it was allowed, and it was taken with no regards to it's status....thus is technically theft as they darn well knew it was on the allowed list.
