Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
For her 21st birthday I gave the grandaughter a travel humi and some cigars. I tossed in a plastic cigar cutter at the last minute. During the intensive security search she received at the airport they took away the cutter. I told her it was no big deal-I think I paid $2 for it, but this is the first time I ever heard of one being taken away-looks like I will be sending her a palio
She might be looking into Club Stogie when she gets home so give her a warm welcome, gorillas! |

Don't even think of bringing a lighter on board

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
I checked last time i traveled and it said that cigar cutters need to be in your checked in luggage, not carry-on. You really gotta read that fine print.

If you don't take this plain to Azerbaijan I'll cut your fingers off!!!
Ugly but doesn't seem life threatening. Of course I don't have a criminal mind so I'm probably not coming up with the best way to do damage with a $2 cigar cutter.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
Cigar cutters were on the 'Allowed' list last time I checked and I carry mine in my pocket every flight.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
Stick your finger in here! She had no checked luggage-just a carry on. They had a big display board with all kinds of tools and things that you cannot take on the plane-a cigar cutter was not on the board. It's just interesting that every airport is different.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
I fly every week with a Bic lighter, one Palio, and 3 Havana Cutters. I have never even been questioned. That does suck because the TSA spells it out on their website. Good luck and nice of you to spoil the granddaughter.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
I have traveled probably 30 times with a cutter and never had a problem. Sucks she had an issue. I would print the damn regs and bring them with me when I fly.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
I have traveled with a cigar cutter several times without a problem. I do remember them confiscating my sisters cuticle scissors while letting my cutter go right through. It also says scissors with blades less than 4 inches are allowed; when my sister tried to argue, they just got snippy. It wasn't worth the argument, so she just let them go. It all seems so arbitrary.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
It says cigar cutters are allowed, but does that mean all types of cutters? I have a Xikar scissor-style cutter.

Re: Cigar cutter confiscated at airport.
Funny, I was just faced with this problem when packing for my trip to Colorado last week. I only have a Palio, and wasn't about to let some chump at the security desk take it (and likely toss it with no clue on what it is). Also I wasn't going to bring a lighter, figured I'd just pick one up out there.
Sooo.. I threw a real cheap punch cutter in my pocket (actually looks like a little cigar when the cap is on it), and figured no big deal if they take it. I made it through 2 security checks without a problem, and on the way home I still had the lighter that I picked up out there, no problem either. Our water bottles that we had in our carry on were a big ordeal though (forgot about them even being in there). |
