Gonna Meet Rocky Patel

I went into my B&M today to load up on stuff I keep saying I want to try but never get around to. I loaded up a hefty reciept of items, and as I was browsing the humidor the owner walks in (this guy's intense) and asks my name, gives me his, commends my fistful of choices, informs me of various deals they have going (all of which I indulged...) and invites me to an event (in under 10 seconds). He goes out and comes back in with this flyer, and tells me that a couple weeks from now they're having a barbecue and cigar and wine tasting with a live jazz band, and Rocky Patel will be there.

Hell, why not?

I wish I had the money and need for two boxes of cigars, because anyone who buys two gets 10 free cigars, a t-shirt and an ash tray (apparently $180 worth of stuff). One box gets you 5 cigars and a t-shirt. Awesome value, but I don't have the capacity to store that kind of inventory, nor the money to buy them in the first place. Oh well, there's food, music, cigars and a popular cigar guru, so I'm going

Met him a couple of months ago. Was real down to earth and does not seem to mind answering questions about the cigar industry.

Hells yes, I'll see what I can do!

I'd love to just talk to him about cigars - it'd be pretty cool. One of the clerks at the shop has met him and also said he's a pretty cool guy.

That is very cool. I would be interested to hear his opinion of whats to come in the next 2,3 years.

Where he thinks the industry is going and what the hit of 09, 10 will be???

Have fun and we will all try to live through you, hahaha!

Then he must still be here, because that's where I am The shop in question is on 92nd and Sheridan; don't know if you've been there.

@Texan in Mexico
I'll be sure to try and ask about that. That's something I'd be interested in hearing from a market giant.

Have fun, I personally have no desire to meet Rocky. He really did J. Fuego dirty when they parted ways.

Re: Gonna Meet Rocky Patel

rocky patel seems like a cool dude. i haven't tried a whole lot of his stuff, but to me he seems kinda like a cigar whore. he has way too many blends. the one blend that really made be cautious was the indian tabac cigars he makes. it tasted good but was ridiculously strong. i've had strong cigars and big nicotine buzzes but the first and only time being nauseous after a cigar was after i smoked an indian tabac.

True, I think he's an interesting character. His business practices and some aspects of his products (the number and hype of them ["BEWARE OF ALL IMITATIONS"]) make him seem like he'd be a pompous wanker, but by all accounts he's supposed to be a cool guy. Things like that make me want to meet him; I'd like to meet Fidel Castro as much as I'd like to meet Nelson Mandela...

No more of a cigar whore than Don Pepin Garcia who probably has more blends out there but who is currently in vogue. The difference is that I like Rocky's cigars and am not a big fan of Pepins.
