Alcohol infused cigars with their alcohol counterpart

I am not a big fan of flavored smokes. That being said, I received a bottle of Gautier XO Gold and Blue from my nephew for my birthday and bought a Gurkha Grand Reserve flavored with Louis XIII Cognac.

There are a number of handcrafted smokes that are alcohol infused. Drew Estates, CAO and others have blended premium tobacco with different types of alcohol. Tonight I smoked the Gurkha and had the Cognac. I found that the cigar was well constructed and yet was lacking something. However, the Cognac imparted a strength and flavor to the cigar that it did not have on its own. I was an excellent match.

Has anyone had experience with matching an alcohol-infused cigar with its alcohol counterpart? For example, Drew Estates Sauza Tres Generaciones with a fine Tequila.

I would be interested to hear your views.

I always see these at the Casino smoke shop. Do they taste sweet or more traditional.

They're only slightly sweet. They taste traditional in most respects, but they are light to medium-bodied, probably so as not to overpower the alcohol flavor.

I'm a big fan of Maker's Mark and I finally bought a Maker's Mark cigar that I plan on having over the holidays with a nice glass of MM bourbon. We'll see how it goes.

I smoked a 5x38 Maker's Mark yesterday. I picked it out becuse it was small and I wouldn't have to be outside in the elements for too awful long. It was a pretty decent smoke...better than I thought it was gonna be. Could taste hints of the whiskey in nearly every puff. I can imagine that it would've been very good with a small glass of MM to accompany it.

Cheers!!
Steve

Re: Alcohol infused cigars with their alcohol counterpart

I'm not an experienced cigar smoker but made up a batch of cheaper maduro's in tupperware with Makers Mark in a shot glass. I loved them!!! For a cheap cigar, Marsh Wheeling Virginians which are machine made they were great and have me now smoking cigars on a somewhat regular basis. They do have a little bit of sweetness to them but smell/taste smooth.

Hey Doc, interesting concept. The results of your investigation might make a great piece for the DWSC! Bob was just talking about dipping cigars in alcoholic beverages on the show, but we hadn't considered matching an alcoholic-infused cigar with it's counterpart.
