Taboo Twist

I have recently gotten some Taboo Twists - Torpedos and Petite Coronas.

Here's the deal. I just had my last older torp, and I noticed something - the maduro portion on the older ones is significantly darker than on the newer ones. I then looked at all of my twists - and all the older ones have a darker maduro twist.

For those who have had both, how does this affect the flavor profile from one to the other?

I did have a Twist PC, and thought the flavor was much different. I had it right out of the bag and wrote the difference off as not giving it the appropriate rest time.

Thanks for your time.

I would PM Rob . I'm sure he would have the best answer for you. I was out at his place today and picked up a box of Twist ( robutso). But being these will be my first batch I have nothing to compare them to.

Same thing here Rev. The maduro sections on the Toro's I bought back in march are much darker than the one's on my more recent Torpedo and Churchill purchases. They still taste great, I guess I should do a shootout to see there is a difference...

Same thing here. No noticeable difference.

I don't think it would effect them that much, would it?

Re: Taboo Twist

I can't say I am a twist expert by any means, but many of the maduros I smoke vary in depth of color aka "darkness" greatly from box to box.
However the flavor and construction seem to be fairly consistent.

This would lead me to believe that twists produced at different times will have different shades of dark wrappers but will still taste and burn similarly.

I have heard that many times when you buy a box of cigars, the factory that pulls the box together purposely takes time to match stogies together based on color. Ie. One box may be really dark and another fairly light, yet both use tobacco from the same crop and of the same quality. Any uniformity you may see in a brand or a box is on purpose and evidence of quality control that I am sure you are paying for

Aside from one bum twist I had (which was quickly replaced by Rob I might add), all have consistently smooth creamy flavor. Yum!

This is true, when I was visiting a certain island last winter and visited a cigar factory, they were sorting the cigars based on the color of the wrapper before boxing them.

Re: Taboo Twist

No complaints here but, the first one I tried about three months ago from a B&M was a prettier cigar with more contrast in the wrappers, both the dark and the light.

I can't comment on any taste difference since about three weeks had elapsed from that first one to when my order came in with the newer wrappers.
I still like 'em.

Just curious what B&M you got it from?

Must have been Town and Country Cigar in Texas. These haven't hit any other B&M's....yet, soon though.

Re: Taboo Twist

The maduro leafs are aged longer and that is what makes them darker , the longer they age the darker they get , then they call em Oscuros , darker than that then it's a Negro pronounced ( N egg ro )

I would imagine when it comes to a twist that not all would be the same unless the cigars all came from the same batch but the difference in color does not surprise me at all and I would say is perfectly normal , I haven't had a Taboo Twist yet but that will be my next order !

There is no difference if the maduro color varies. The majority of the flavor in this cigar is coming from the filler. This is why you notice differences between the different sizes. (Blend Ratios) If the filler was not as flavorful as it is, then you would not notice any differences between sizes. We found the PC's smoked much closer to the other sizes with more rest time.

I hope this help
Thanks CS
I wish everyone a great weekend

We have had some local B&M's come in and buy Taboo over this last year. We are not telling them "no" if they come in, but we are not really interested in selling B&M's until 2009.
