And finally...
A shot of what it really looks like.
This is what color the stain turned out. It's a nice, soft, chocolate walnut.
I should have mentioned that the insert is made from oak. The drawer faces are solid oak. The box frame is oak veneer paneling. The drawer sides are poplar, and the drawer bottoms are oak veneer, unfinished.
The sides of the insert are covered in Spanish Cedar. You'll see that in a few minutes...

All those answers are coming up. You'll see pics of the back in just a few minutes.
Yes, it's fully removable. That's the whole idea.

Here's a shot of the Spanish Cedar I used on the sides of the drop-in. You can also see how the slides work. The whole unit simply slides into the pre-existing grooves in the vino. Both sides are covered in Spanish Cedar. It's not that cheap cat piss smelling Spanish Cedar, either. It's stuff that I worked out of a 7 foot long, 21 inch wide, two inch thick slab of Spanish Cedar.
It smells absolutely wonderful.

Here's a shot of the back.
Lots of things going on here. The slats are solid oak. They serve to keep the box square. They also serve as drawer stops. They also allow a full and constant air circulation into the drawer cavity.
If you go back to the beginning you can see how the top of the insert splits the fan.
The botom half of the fan will constantly be blowing and circulating air among the drawers to keep everything nice and uniform.

A shot of how the slides fit into the vino's tray slots.

Re: Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

This is a poor attempt to illustrate how the insert sits up off the floor and provides a space. The intent is to provide airflow and a place for beads. It'd also be an excellent place to hide top secret stuff or to store skinny boxes.
Ideally, I'd place beads here and leave it mostly open so that I can view the drain (that should be plugged). This way I can easily see if there is any condensate without having to pull the whole drop-in out and clear off the top shelf to do it.

The last pic, just because I like it, is a close shot of the back corner.
You can see a lot of construction principles going on here.

Re: Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

Welp, that about covers it for now.
Thanks everyone for all the kind words.
I'm going to slap some of these together and offer them for sale in the next couple weeks. If anyone is interested, drop me a pm and I'll let you know when they come available. Once I've built them, I'll be able to cost them out and see how much they'll be.
I can tell you all that stuff then for your consideration.

I'm going to go mow the grass now.
