Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

A good while back I dressed out my couple winadors with drawers. It went really well and the drawers
are a joy. Being the first try, they're not all that refined, a little clunky, and quite frankly, they could work
better.
I've had a lot of thoughts, ideas and refinements swimming around in my head, and last week I decided
to jump on this project while I waited for wood to come in that I've ordered for the Zebrawood/Ebony
desktop humis I'm going to make.
The prototype went very well and it works perfectly in every way, shape and form.
It also looks damned handsome.
Now that it's built, I can see a lot of ways to make it easier. I can see ways to frame it better so that it'll
even be more stable. All the measurements are available now, so I don't have to think and rethink every
single piece.
Once I commit the measurements to paper, I'll make a few and see how much it costs. At that point, I
hope they're reasonable enough to offer for sale. So far, with the time I spent and material involved, the
price would be off the map. I really think they'll be somewhat reasonable when this all flushes out.
Hope you enjoy the pics!!!
Scott

Here's a shot of the dropin sitting in a vino. The color is awful.
You guys will get a better idea once I get the better pics up. They're coming...
The coffee on the top is Kona that Demiurgic sent me. It's absolutely awesome.

Here's a shot of the drop-in installed and the vino door open.
The color still sucks, but we'll get there...

Looking good, sir! Using the existing guides to support the shelves is a great idea. As for the color.. who cares?! LOL.

This is a shot of the top shelf. I designed the drop-in to split the fan. It allows equal amounts of air to be forced down the back and under the drop-in, as well as across the top shelf. The shelf looks poly'd, it's not. Just stained. It still needs rubbed to be finished.

Did you see your coffee up there ^, my brother?
Almost have a pot down already today. I think that's a half gallon.
I hope I don't die.

I'm posting pics as fast as I can edit them.
I'm saving all the best for last.

Re: Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

Here's the drawers pulled out.
When they come out there's a warning bump worked into the track so you know you're nearing the end, then there's a stop that keeps the drawer from falling on the floor.
When fully extended, the drawer drops just a little allowing a better view of the contents when you are sitting in front of it.
I can choose to let the drawer open any distance. That's what dictates whether it drops down or stays level. I like the drop. It's cool.

Stick around Paul. It gets even better.
I'm really stoked about this thing. It turned out gorgeous, even for a prototype. The difference is the tools. I bought a bandsaw, planer, jointer/planer, and a bunch of other stuff I needed to do the work I wanted to do.
I'm in heaven.

Another shot of a drawer. The color of the stain is getting a lot closer to what it really looks like. I took some pics outside to deliver the real deal. They're coming real shortly.

The handles are brushed stainless and perfectly match the brushed stainless trim on the vino's door. Totally sexy.

WOW that does look exceptional. Are there perferations in the back for air flow or is the unit sealed off (as in it could be removed from the vinotemp).

It really looks great
