Re: Vinotemp trays (prototype almost done)
I finally got around to finishing up 4 of the trays and got some new pictures to share.
Since the last post I sprayed 2 more coats of clear lacquer on the outsides and before the last coat wet sanded with an 800 grit wet sanding paper. I lined the boxes with Spanish Cedar and cut the glass tops. Here is a shot of the back with the top on. The cedar is 1/8 of an inch lower than the sides so the top sits in the lip and will not slide side to side or out the front. ![]() Another angle looking down at the back corner you can see on these I just butted the cedar. In the future I am going to use an angle cut to make a nicer look. ![]() From the front you can see the glass top is flush with the outside frame so the tray slides in and out of the unit smoothly. It also creates a very clean look when they are slid out to view what’s inside. ![]() Here an empty tray is pulled out several inches and the glass top is slid back allowing you to access this tray without opening the rest. ![]() Here is another shot this time with cigars in the tray ![]() I bought 4 different handles and think the one I like the most is the top one. Unfortunately when I made the jig for the holes I did not mark it top or bottom and drilled the holes in the front too high. Mistake corrected, the jig is now marked. ![]() Capacity in these trays is limited to 1 deep unless they are a rather small ring gauge or a thin box pressed cigar. The single trays are designed to slide into each slot in the Vinotemp. I am now going to design a double that should allow for 2 to 3 deep easily. ![]() I have changed a few of the processes and steps I will take when building future trays. Simple things which to me will make a huge difference in the final products appearance. I hope to have a double designed in the next week or so. Chas |

Nicely done, they look great!
Are you going to put any holes in the bottom of the trays to allow for air circulation? |

The biggest problem with the Vinotemp is the swings in RH during cycling of the units. Most people prefer to keep their stuff in closed boxes so the sticks are not affected by the swings. I wanted to design something that looked more "finished" than just plain cedar or plain cigar boxes. The glass tops do not seal "air tight" so they can equalize with the temp and humidity inside the unit. Plus I think they add a touch of class, visibility into the tray and help protect the cigars from the swings. Chas |

Very impressive work! What is your projected price for each tray? Give or take, how many sticks will each one hold? Also, since I'm not too familiar with Vinos, I have one last question. It looks like you have 7 drawers in yours right now, how much space is that left on the bottom there?

http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=179390 As for the space question - there are 12 shelf slots in the Vino, so a bit less than half of the Vino space is left at the bottom with 7 of the shelves, if that gives you an idea. |

Re: Vinotemp trays (prototype almost done)
I'd also like to know. I've just bought a vinotemp for storing cigars at my girlfriend's house and I have a lot that are not in boxes. Where can I get more information?
