Alright, so I know some of your wives let you smoke all the time but mine would like me to smoke once or twice a week as long as I exercise at least 30 minutes a day (an hour a day gets me the two cigars a week). I figure this is a great agreement since I like to work out anyways but don't always make time for it.

So this morning I had my first morning cigar (never thought I would a cigar in the morning) and was really satisfied with it. But just now, we had a monsoon come into the valley and I was all excited to sit outside and watch the lightning come in with one of my dogs. Well, even though we were on a date night, I asked and voila... I got a second cigar for the day!!!

Enjoyed a Oliva Series G Perfecto. Had a tight draw so it burned a little hot for me. Great cedar flavors with a hit of coffee. Burn time was around 35 minutes. The good life!

Anyone elses wives make you work for you cigars?

When she tells you to jump do you ask her "how high?"

Sorry for sounding so cynical, but I could never see how a relationship can be fulfilling and successful when you constantly need to ask permission from your SOWMBO to do simple things that make you happy.

The motivation for you to keep yorself healthy by exercising and monitoring your cigar smoking should come from within, not through someone else's demands on you.

Sorry for the lecture but I've been married for 16 years to a woman who has felt she has had the right to run my life and it has been an ultimate disaster.

Looking back at my post, I guess it sounds worst then it is. I kinda meant it more lighthearted. She doesn't demand anything from me but it makes her feel better if I am taking care of myself. We lost her father last year partly due to him not taking care of himself. So when I took up this hobby, I made an agreement with her on the exercise (I needed more motivation to be more consistent). She could give me a hard time about the cigars (and the slope) but she doesn't. She doesn't question any cc charges or packages that show up, either. And sometimes, even feigns interest in them

. And I cannot fault her for wanting me around as long as possible.

I was kinda wondering if anyone else out there has a wife that doesn't like the hobby and if they made any compromises to keep the peace. A buddy from work has to smoke outside and leave his cloths in the garage... that type of stuff.

And I should have added that we were having a date night, so when the rain started, she let me break away and enjoy the evening events. The monsoons here in Phoenix get pretty crazy and we don't see rain all that much

Great advice indeed.

Didn't mean to come down so hard on the guy, but after 16 years I finally realized I'm the one responsible for my own happiness. If you depend on someone else to MAKE you happy, or are constantly concerning yourself if you are MAKING the other person happy your life will be like a walk across Lake Superior on thin ice.

I'm no relationship authority other than my own and others close to me experiences. But what I am certain of through those expereinces is that if you can't just BE YOU in a relationshipwithout always worrying if you're doing and saying the "right" things - it simply will not work in the long run (unless of corse you're OK with that kind of set up.)

I'm with you NOW Acalla, but was a bit worried for you with your first post

. My wife is a non-smoker but is pretty freakin' cool about me smoking. All she asks is that I don't break the bank, but she says that about all my hobbies - other than that no compromises!

I have a room to myself in the house where I have my computers set up so that room by default has become my smoking room too, although my patio out back has seen some use too - the dogs chasing each other and being goofy are good entertainment.

Fall and Spring the patio sees more use for smoking 'cause I HATE the heat of Summer, and Winter is 50/50 for smoking indoors/outdoors for me 'cause I LOVE cold weather. (I'll readily agree that East TN definition of cold may be different from some of you more northern brothers' definition!)

My buddy has it even better - a finished basement to call his own for poker, gaming, smoking, or whatever, and his wife's pretty cool with it too.

Believe me, I understand. I have a friend that only lets him out once every other month for a guys night and then calls him 10 times during the night. He is not a happy camper. If that was the case, I would be single again. I really didn't mean for my post to sound so harsh. I was just excited to be enjoying the cooler weather (it was 110 today) from the storm.
