I haven't heard anything either about yanking product off the shelf. The way I look at it, when I wrote the check, the cigars became mine. I had to sign a "contract" of sorts saying that I wouldn't sell them online, but that's it. If they want my stock back, I'll just tell them that I sold all of them during Christmas. What can they do? I think based more in rumor than fact. Besides that, I haven't seen a CAO rep in my store in over a year. What are they gonna do, send someone out on their dime just to pick up a few partial boxes? No way.
Just set them next to the Gurhkas with a sign that says, "better cigar at half the price."

Yeah my shop didn't say anything about the CAOs either. Did you hear anything yet about the Diablos?

I was gifted one of these by Smokey and was gonna burn it tomorrow. I think I'll hang on to it for awhile.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

I have a box in the humi and about 10 singles.

Cao brand is OK. I bought them to try and of course because I am a big Badda Bing ! Fan !

They are not bad cigars. To bad they are having such a short run.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

I bought a box of the robusto size (associate?) the box is humidor quality, leather lined and now holds my 'studio or 'jam-time'' smokes. the smokes them selfs are very very good. id say a slight Jamacian gold flavor with a Brazilia type spice.

I use them mostly as hand outs (people dig the citchy factor)though id smoke one over many MANY others On the other hand..... i have noticed that my tinderbox got one of each size and besides the box i bought he has only moved about 5 sticks a size. All well.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

My B&M had about 10 of the torpedo and 5 of the Robusto size left, but they were $11 and $15 apiece...that's before Cook County taxes. Probably gonna be close to $14 and $18 after taxes, that's a little steep me thinks.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

I dont think liscencing fees has anything to do with it.

I would imagine CAO paid a flat fee for using the CAO name, not on a per box, or even per stick basis. Tracking the sale of each individual stick would be a nightmare.

Even if CAO did have to pay for each box sold, then they paid when the boxes were sold to the distributers, not when the distributers sold them.

I would imagine any money has already been paid to HBO, and is not going to be refunded because CAO decided to not sell the cigars.

There are only 2 logical ideas why they would be recalled.

There is something wrong with them

Or HBO decided they did not want to be associated with the cigars and actually bought back all the boxes themselves.

Either way, its not because CAO doesnt want to pay the liscencing fee. Once they hit the stores, that fee is already paid.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

I received one in my secret santa. However this sucks. I don't think I would of ever bought a box but a few 5 packs. This is weird if this is true their is something more they are not telling us. I really don't think HBO has a problem being associated with tobacco. They had a show with men raping men (OZ). Their is a few cigar shop owners here lets see what they say or come with.

Re: CAO Sopranos have been called back

It could have also been decided by the brass that the timing was off, and they are pulling them back until the final season starts, at which time they will be rereleased.
