Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

Hi all
Well ive just got back from my honeymoon cruise today, the last 2 days in NY(im sure il bore you all with many posts about it!)
We went with Princess cruises on the princess carabbean, it has a cigar bar called the churchill lounge it was great, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Cig smokers and cigar smokers in there, i smoked cigarettes pretty much anywhere on the ship (except food / kid areas) and a few cigars as well no one said a word!
The range of cigars was, i thought pretty good with fair prices, i would definately recommend them.
Hope this helps, il post more later but not bin sleep for 30+ hours so feeling bit rough! Glad to be back on CS, didnt get time to log on, on board.

On the 10x10 area of the deck on odd days only if you aren't wearing white, subject to salt spray and between the hours of 0430 and 0445.

JK, you might want to double check the actual location(s) and such. You probably have, but I am such a cynic, I would want to make doubly... no... triply sure I had more than somewhere out of the wind to smoke, ala the Cigar bar you can't smoke in....

BTW, enjoy the hell out of yourself.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

I've been cruising almost annually for 14-15 years, & I've seen a LOT of changes, especially in the smoking & drinking polices. Lately, I've been almost exclusively with Holland America, though even there the changes are for the worst, ever since Carnival bought it (& almost every other major line) several years ago. Smoking is basically relgated to the aft open air decks. And your cabin. I basically camp out on the aft section of the Lido deck, near the (smaller) pool, away from bitchin' cruisers, & camp out with a book & (smuggled) bourbon or rum. In the evenings, they set up an outdoors 'cigar bar', but the prics of their offerings are obscene, so I'm happy with the 40 or so sticks I bring with me. They never give me grief for bringing my own or sharing some with others. Works for me. My next trip is a 7-day Caribbean cruise on November 30.

Buffet? We had 4 course sit down gourmet dinners each night. Not sure which ship you went on but we had an awesome time.

I went on a Royal Caribean Cruise a few months ago, and the food sucked. Cigar smoking was limited to one side of the deck, and the smoking lounge, whice was only open for four hours each evening.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

My wife and I cruise regularly and the best cruise lines that cater to cigar smokers I feel is on the Cunard Line, esp. the Queen Mary as they have a very nice smoking room available. Of course you can always smoke freely on your own balcony. Princess Cruises is another line that has smoking areas as does Holland America but you should always check to ensure which ship has the rooms. I know that Princess lets you smoke in all open air areas onboard ship but that doesn't mean you won't get stares and people grunting about the smell. We always get a balcony and I check each ship before choosing the cruise to ensure that there is a private smoking room. It pays to check with the Cruise Line first.

You will like the Glory as I cruised on that ship to the Mexican Riviera and it was one of the better Carnival Ships. I enjoyed the cigar bar area very much although the food was mediocre at best. The lobby where they play jazz during the evening was always open to cigar smoking and is really nice if you like jazz and the open area was excellent.

While I'll agree cruises are overrated for the most part, I have to disagree on the food being bad.

BOTTOM LINE: You get what you pay for.

It ALL depends on what cruise line you choose. Choose a lower end line like Carnival or Royal Carribean and the food may leave something to be desired. Step up to Princess, Holland America, Cunard, Norweigan(back in th day) and the level of food is definitely better.
Step up even higher to Celebrity or specialized small boat cruises like Silver Sea and I PROMISE you you will love the food. Those boats only hold 400 people max, so they can focus on quality.

Well sure if there are less people they can focus on quality. You can get rent a private yacht with a your own chef too if you want the very best. Like others I made the mistake of trying to bigger cruise companies and they are highly over-rated.

Although it doesn't have a cigar lounge, not true that cruises have the worst food. Have you ever been on a Disney one and visited their exclusive restaurant that you pay extra for? That is top shelf dining.

I can personally vouch for that cruise three times.

Best cruise I ever went on. I would go back for a fourth time in a minute.

Disneys private island is so serene.........it was just an awesome trip. Each time was better than the first.
