Cigars and cruising updates?

I have read a lot of older posts about the dwindling number of cruise ships allowing cigar & pipe smoking. Anyone been on a cruise lately that you can update us on? I am in the early stages of planning a cruise and would love any new info

Say it ain't so...
I don't have any insight with this...
The smoking world is getting smaller...and that ain't good

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

IMO cruises are over-rated and now with smoking rights dwindling you have to ask yourself if an all inclusive beach caribbean beach vacation might not be a better choice. Cruises have the worst food.

Dug around and found one of my bookmarks for you, good luck.

Updated July 31, so fairly up to date. Depressing how the cruise lines aren't really accommodating those that are truly some of their best customers.

Depends on the ship I guess. We went on Royal Carribean lat year and had a great time. Great food, cigar smoking in the lounge.

I agree their are some nice ships that still have cigar lounges...but for how much longer? I'm amazed that smokers can not have at least one comfortable place to smoke that is protected from the outside elements. If not, well it's their rice bowl but they have lost my business....screw them!!

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

Well, probably because of its generally older passenger population, Holland America Line still allows smoking on your verandah and in your room. The decks are like many of them now where you are limited to the aft part of the open decks.

I will be on the new Eurodam this December for my 20th wedding anniversary and both my wife and I will probably enjoy some really nice cigars on the verandah with some nice dark rum and beautiful sunsets.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

The comment that interested me was about the ship that had a cigar lounge that didn't allow smoking.

Maybe they have a bar with no alcohol, too.

Yikes. I hated RC. I hate eating from a buffet and then the way they mass produce dinner makes it flavorless and often cold. I spent all that extra money to get a suite and still hated it. I can't imagine staying in one of the closet rooms.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

I am also planning a cruise in either Feb or June 2009 so I'll watch this thread.

The RCCL Voyager and Freedom class ships (their bigger boats) have really nice cigar bars located conveniently to the wine bar in the Promenade. The wife and I will go in there and enjoy a drink or two while the kids are in the adventure club. The food in trough (buffet) can be very questionable on RCCL but the main restaurants are usually pretty decent. And the food/service in the Portofino and steak house (you pay a $20 premium to eat there) is 5 star all the way. I would eat there every night except it's a solid 2 hour experience.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

I get this weird "back at summer camp" vibe from cruises too. It didn't help that the last one when we were forced to muster the completely wasted 35ish yo guy that was pawing all over his 65ish yo girlfriend right in front of me. Get a room you two... or better yet... get a lifeboat. I have heard of dating a cougar but not dating her grandmother.

Re: Cigars and cruising updates?

I was on my 4th RCCL cruise a couple months ago, and not only is the Viking Crown Lounge cigar friendly, they have a cigar afficianado event every night.

It wasn't that well attended, but it still gave me a chance to smoke and watch a game on the tv.

Just don't buy any cigars in Nassau if you stop there with the exception of Atlantis or the Graycliff.
