Is it okay for a vendor to post that you bought cigars from them?

Do you think it's okay for a retailer to post on a public BB such as this one something to the effect of:

"Thanks (your name here) for the order. I see that you ordered a box of (the specific box of cigars you purchased from them, i.e. 'Padron 1926 #6')"

Personally, I don't think this is a good idea unless the purchaser decided to make a public record of his purchases, then a "Thanks for your order" is probably apporpriate. But, what if the purchaser bought the cigars as a GIFT? What if the purchaser likes to keep his purchases and what he has in his humidor a PRIVATE matter?

All up to the buyer IMO. Dealer should respect confidentiality if it is wanted from the buyers end.

I would of liked to seen a choice for (and would have voted for)

Only if permission from the buyer was obtained first

An excellent idea Rod, I wish I would have thought of that.

If you PM the mod of this forum (PDS or radar), they can edit the poll options for you, if you like. If that option was on there, I'd have chosen it.

Did you have a specific problem with a vendor doing this? If so, it sounds as if they were using your sale as an intro/icebreaker with other buyers.

I say they should have asked 1st. If you didn't have a problem with the transaction, I would remind them (firmly, but gently) that they did not have your permission. See what shakes out. They may give you a nice discount on your next box.

You mis-spelled appropriate BTW.

Only with the buyers permission. Otherwise it should be kept confidential.

I really think that it should be confidential. If the seller wants to say thanks like that they should do it privately.

I agree with most of the above. The seller needs to let the consumer vouch for the purchase......good or bad.

Re: Is it okay for a vendor to post that you bought cigars from them?

I voted no but personally I don't see much advantage to a seller advertising this way on the internet. With the vastness (is that a word?) that the internet covers a company advertising that Joe Blow bought a certain cigar doesn't do anything for me... for all I know they just made names up. And besides whatever Joe smokes doesn't enter into my decision.

Now if they are just trying to make a point that they are reputable with lots of customers this also would seem to be a relatively ineffective way to project this image as again they can just make up names.

I think that personal referrals or testimonials should be agreed upon by both parties before using them and that they are only effective if the person is either locally recognizable or a celebrity. But then again as I stated earlier... in the case of cigars it wouldn't affect my decision to buy or not. My personal tastes or the valued recomendation of one of Club Stogie members that I know would be the determining factor for me.

Just my 2 cents worth...

I voted no. I don't want my purchases published on a BB or anywhere else. If I decide to discuss here or anywhere else what I'm buying that is my decision not a vendors.

Yes, I did have a specific vendor do this (TBSCigars on CigarSmokers.com), but to make matters even worse, I never bought cigars from him in the first place. He and his loyal band of followers on StogieChat are insisting that it's okay for a vendor like him to "thank" people for their purchases "it happens all the time" they say and I just wanted to see what everyone else thought....

LOL, thanks for pointing out my spelling error, I'll be more karefuller in the footure

No, I didn't chase him anywhere, he signed up on CigarSmokers, and started in with namecalling and lied about me placing an order with him.

I guess we just didn't hit it off Oh, and I love ANY Padron 1926.
