Do you store a Port the same as you would your other reds?

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'

Please be aware that there are wine snobs just as much as there are cigar snobs. Just because a bottle costs $10-15, doesn't mean it's bad as long as it tastes good to you.

I personally enjoy Sheffield Tawny Port(should be around the $10 mark) on a regular basis. I have had some 25 year old Port and the flavor is more refined, but the price differential for me is not worth it.

As for storage, 55-65 degrees, I stick the bottles in with my cigars.

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'

Since you aren't a wine guy. Don't worry about price, just get a tawny. The wood aged ports will appeal to whiskey drinkers(I love whiskey). Even a cheap port is going to be delicious. All ports are probably quite a bit sweeter than what you are used to, no point in paying extra since you won't notice the difference this early in the game. Port + Cigars=, there's nothing like it.

My recommendation: Taylor 10 year old tawny.

I can find that for about $15 and it's my favorite non-vintage variety. The wife & I do about 2-3 bottles of tawny port/month, almost all of it is the "cheap" stuff. In addition to the Fonseca, we'll get Warre's Reserve, Sandeman's, Taylor Fladgate or Hardy's.
