Need some suggestions for 'Port'
I am not a wine guy - I am a knuckle dragging scotch guy. However, I have been told a couple times that there are some good port wines that could go well with cigars and have absolutely no idea which to go for.
Any suggestions? |

will do- I did not look there as I assumed it was a forum for those independantly and not as a cigar accompaniment (specifically).
Sorry for the mispost, still learning the forum. |

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
I like Port, and typically have a few bottles per year. I most recommend a good quality 10 year old tawny port. They will run you about $25 per bottle. If your pocketbook allows it, there are fine older tawney ports too.
From Wiki: "Tawny with an indication of age is a blend of several vintages, with the average years "in wood" stated on the label, the official categories being 10, 20, 30 and over 40 years. For each category, the average age of the various vintage is at least that of the given category." Fonseca, Grahams, Taylor Fladgate, Warre, Sandeman are all reputable brands.

If you don't mind me asking what is your budget? That way we can go after the best in that range.

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
for wine with a cigar - I'm not a "con-a-sewer" so no more than $40/bottle, with around $25/bottle being optimum.
I do relax the wallet a bit more for fine scotch though |

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
My 'standard' is Macallan 12.
My 'occasion' scotch is Macallan 25 My 'guest' scotch is Dalwhinnie 15 My favorite scotch to give friends that run their mouth about their whisky knowledge is Laphroaig I generally don't like blends, and tend to drink it neat (sometimes with a dash of water) or with an ice cube if outside in the summer. |

My guy says, Sandman.
I would trust his suggestion but you do what you like. Just let me know what you get and how it goes. |

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
Sandeman Port is great and at $15 a bottle not a big hit on the wallet....

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
Hardys Whiskers Blake Tawny Port. Really inexpensive (around $12/bottle) and when slightly chilled, very nice. I actually like it more than the Warre tawny.

Re: Need some suggestions for 'Port'
My suggestion is to try a Tawny Port. They are not as sweet as a Ruby Port. One of my favorite inexpensive bottles is Graham's Tawny at about $16.99 a bottle.
