Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

Do you guys like to buy hard or soft cigars? J/K, couldn't resist.
I have no preference lately. More times than not they go into the humi the way they came. I've become so lazy lately and just to save on space I tend to keep things in the baggy they came in with just the sealed part of the bag open. I'll pull them out to inspect them but will usually just put them back in the bag just to conserve space. I used to pull all the cello off my smokes but found that they would get damaged from time to time so now I just leave it. If they come naked they stay naked, if they come celloed they stay celloed. It really makes no difference. It's just a matter of preference an how bad the OCD is kicking that day!

Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

For short term storage, meaning going to be smoked and not intentionally aged, I would leave the cello on. For boxes that you are intentionally storing longterm, I would take the cello off and then wrap the box tight, IMO.

We've all seen the yellow or even brown cellos from aged cigars, as well as the plume stuck to the cello sometimes. It seems to me these oils would have been better off staying with the cigar than being wicked up by the plastic.

So minimum air exchange and no wicking material for aging, leave cello on for protection of the short term smoking stock.

Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

I leave them on. That way they are easier to handle and I don't have to worry about damaging the wrapper or foot of the cigar. Especially for cammies! Plus, I don't mind putting it in my shirt pocket if I'm headed out for the night.

Rev.
I agree with Rev. It just seems a little strange to me to have such a natural product kept in plastic. Also, I'm constantly taking extra cigars with me wherever I go. Even going in and out of my travel humidor, I rarely have any wrapper issues. Maybe I've just been lucky. Anywy, my .

Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

I love my cigar naked in my humidor as it looks and smells really nice but some of them started getting damaged and it was making me sad....

Now all cigars that come with cellophane will stay in cellophane

What, huh, who? Tag Search

Cellophane was invented in 1908 by Jacques E. Brandenberger, a Swiss textiles engineer. It is a thin, transparent sheet made of processed cellulose.

Cellulose is a polysaccharide. It forms the primary structural component of green plants.

Mostly cellulose fibers from wood, cotton or hemp are used for making "cellophane".

However, the use of the word "cellophane" has been genericized, and is often used informally to refer to a wide variety of plastic film products, even though not made of cellulose.

For me it is a very good thing that most of the cigars that I buy are protected by an essentially plant based wrapping as opposed to some polymer or monomer that could potentially be broken down by the oils of the cigar causing some molecular migration of said plastics into my cigars.

I suspect that the use of the word "cellophane" when it comes to cigars is in the strict sense of the word (plant based in origin) and hopefully not being used in the generic vernacular...On it stays, but I do carefully remove it for photos, then carefully place them back on before I bed them down.

Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

I too, store them how I receive them. If their naked they stay naked, etc. I do seperate my singles with a a piece of cedar from my cigar boxes, that I cut to fit. That way two different brands aren't wrapper to wrapper. I'm sure they still "marry" a bit, but I think the strip of cedar helps.

As far as boxes go, I take the cello off the box itself, then crack the box open and put a thin piece of cedar in, to keep the box ever-so slightly ajar.

Re: Cello Wrapper On Or Off?

Since I have to move my humidor every time I grab a cigar--it's on a shelf without enough space to open properly--I store 90 percent of my cigars with wrapper on. If I have 10 of something, for example, one goes cello off on the top shelf, the other 9 go cello on down below.
