Left hand/Right Hand Dos Capas

Just recieved a 15-pack of Gurkha Grand Masters from the devil site (which I never knew existed until I took a waltz through the jungle, thanks fellas ) and these are the first cigars I've had personally with the dual wrappers. OK, they're petty and all, but I bought them as I'm becoming a fan of the Gurks and the local B&M doesn't carry these. Well, as I'm fondling the 3 5-packs I notice two packs are wound in one direction and the third pack is wound the other direction. So, since I'm sitting on the deck smoking my first one, drinking a made-up rum drink and listening to Columbian music I have nothing better to do than wonder - are the different twists the result of left-handed and right-handed rollers.

Any help in the jungle to cure my curiosity?

Steve

BTW, the Dos Capas kicks ass (that's about as good of review as I can do)

Interesting queston. Now you got me wanting to look through my humidor to see if I got the same thing going here with my cigars.

And " made up " rum drink. Sounds like some of the stuff we did at parties involving a trash can and what ever we could find.

I think it has to do with the wrapper leaf. When the leaf is split in two at the middle vein (stem) you get two wrappers, a righty and a lefty.
When you look in a box of cigars the wrappers go one way or another, its just much more noticable with dos or tres capas.
Enjoy those smokes!

Spot on, each wrapper leaf is split to give two wrappers, one requiring a clockwise (righty) roll and the other a counter-clockwise (lefty) roll... I think the only difference between a left handed and a right handed roller would be whether the cigar faces head to the left or right during rolling...

I dunno, but all mine are rolled with a right handed-twist, for what it's worth...

You'll find that for aesthetic reason, usually all the cigars in a dos or tres capas box will be the same roll, y'know, so it look pretty.

Re: Left hand/Right Hand Dos Capas

Thanks for the answer, I had never considered the wrapper leaf had to be rolled a certain direction due to the side of the leaf it came from. Definitely makes since now.

And Stacey, the "made-up" rum drink was born of the trash can ideology - a small amount of mojito mix, some tonic water, and rum. Turned out pretty good.

Tonic water and mojito mix. That would have never crossed my mind. Maybe I don't think out of the box enough.
