Maybe I got lucky with my chiminea, but it cost me $80 at Home Depot 2 yrs ago and is still going strong. I keep it uncovered, never clean it, never have a problem. Not much ash buildup, no cracks, it's great! I burn oak, and usually only burn 4 or 5 logs for ~2 hrs of fire. Each log is maybe ~5"x12"

My only complaint is that it's directional. Makes it tough for a bunch of people to crowd around for warmth, but on the other hand it's perfect for just my wife and I, maybe another couple. It sits in the corner of my deck, and being directional I'm not too concerned about catching the house on fire I keep warm pretty well even in the dead of winter, so it's mostly for the women anyway
