Punch Gran Puro?

Anticipation seems to be both the best and worst of smoking cigars... My curiosity is killing me!

After a huge salad and shamefully thick steak tonight (thank you, George Foreman, for returning to me the pleasure of dead, red meat), I anticipate the Punch Gran Puro (a Toro, I believe). I scanned the Big Boy Board (Non-Hubanos Reviews), and found mixed opinions. Anyone have a quick take on this one???

I've smoked a number of the Santa Rita and liked them a lot. Spicy, good flavor.

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

Spicey and full for me... one of the first maduro smokes I tried.. seemed strong then, haven't gone back to one since my palate has matured a bit since then, I want to try another one. I think you should enjoy it.

*edited* because it sounded condescending before, and I didn't mean it like that

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

I was gifted a box of these a couple months ago by General but I have yet to give them a try. I thought it best to let them rest awhile. Though I have given several to friends.... I'm now curious as to what they thought.

Honestly, I can't think of a Punch cigar that I don't like.

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

Thank you, one and all, for your input! And to those of you who described it as "spicy," you were right on the money!!!

But the spiciness was, indeed, delicious!! I let her rest many times, and she accompanied me for well over 90 minutes... Wonderful flavor, and intoxicating aroma!

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. So far I haven't found a NC Punch that I really like. There are a couple more that I need to try, but so far I just don't think this brand is for me.

Pretty much my opinion, too. However, my least favorite are the Gran Puros since they are rather strong. I have no complaints about construction or burn on the ones that I have tried. Both categories were perfect with tons of smoke. But the strength was a bit much. I prefer the Gran Cru or Delux lines when it comes to a relaxing smoke.

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

It seems like I am one of the few who doesn't find them that special. All Punch's seem to be a little bit one-dimensional, at least the ones I have tried. The only ones that seemed maybe a little better than average was the Rare Corojo. That might be because I love corojo wrappers.

That is my favorite part about this hobby though. I love arguing with people at the B&M saying why this stick is better than that one or whatever. As long as you enjoyed it, thats what counts.

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

It's nice to see there are people that like these cigars; I was beginning to think I was the only one around here who did.

The Gran Puro seems to get more polarized responces from people than their other lines.

I have gone through a couple boxes of the Rancho Vitola, and have only 2 of the Santa Rita size in my humi currently. This is one of the few over $2 a stick cigars I buy by the box.

Re: Punch Gran Puro?

Gran Puro - smoked a dozen or so and found them strong, spicy, good-drawing, smokes. Liked them fine - would buy a few each time I'd drop by the local.

I read database reviews and wondered why they were so disliked. Then I smoked one that tasted like socks off the feet of WWII Russian Army infantry and understood. I mean rotten - pitched it - awful. Next one fine. Next one squishy loose, burned rocket hot and fast up one side. It's troublesome to review since I suspect they arrive with the good, the bad and the ugly all in the same box.

I like the Punch Rothschild Maduro a lot, but find they sometimes run loose/burn fast as well.
