In this hobby you go down more than one slope. It seems that the next slope always seem to be more steep than the last.

Yeah they sorta did. By saying:

Quote:
My friend, you have not even started down the slope.
It encourages a competitiveness that should not be there. Here is someone that is proud of what he has acquired (proud enough to take and post pictures) and he has people telling him that he hasn't even begun to slope. That is an elitist position. I smoke around 70 cigars a year and if I buy more than 300 I feel a little slopey.

I am not sure that comment is elitist, it is a fair warning. As the OP has already discovered, many people have way more invested in this hobby then he ever expected when he(or any of us, for that matter) started. I think a post warning him about what could be a wild ride was more than warranted (as it happens here frequently) and was not a competitive jab similar to, "I have more than you do".

No one here has the greatest collection in the world, there is always farther to fall. Even you admit that you buy more cigars then you smoke, is that not a slope right there?

Re: slope much?

The difference is instead of congratulating a person on the slope as experienced so far it is basically saying you don't know what you are talking about because you haven't even begun to slope.

My point is that some casual smokers may not even feel comfortable posting here because the die-hard 3 cooler guy is here to remind them (and me) that we don't have as much. Now the 3 cooler guy doesn't bother me but I am not easily bothered.

My point still stands... the slope is not the same for everyone. FMH may buy another humidor and it stop there. I think he has a nice collection and if he feels he is sloping I hope he is having fun.

I am still confused about where any post/poster made anyone feel like his/her collection is inadequate

Re: slope much?

i do not believe that this debate should be furthured. when i saw borndead1's post i chuckled. i believe his intention was basically saying that "its only going to get worse" and before i know it, i will have humi's or coolers up the yingyang. now if that was not his initial intention, then i believe he needs to reconsider what he says here. but i dont believe he was trying to be conceded or elitist.

now may i request that we stop this debate and actually talk about the initial topic on-hand.

i would much appreciate it,
Bryan

Re: slope much?

Some nice looking sticks in there! New Opus? Found a pair this week, myself.

we all find the same slope. I got a 25-count box to store some gifted cigars. Then got a 125-count . . . and filled it. Got another 150-count . . . and it's pretty full. I already have the vinodor, but have wine in it. Doh!

Re: slope much?

You really aren't sloping until you've got 150 coolidors sitting in a storage unit 10 miles away from your house, a unit that costs $450/month. Come on, step it up!

btw, I appreciate the feedback above about the vinotemp, I'm really torn. The reason I like the humidor that I linked above is that it's a) decent size for me right now "I think" (I've got a 50-count humi and an 8-count travel humi) b) decently priced and c) looks perty. I like the temperature control and capacity of the vino but it's not as perty but certainly more functional.

Hey Bryan, what are you considering for your next humi?

Hey Bryan, what are you considering for your next humi?

Re: slope much?

I recognize some of those sticks!

looks like you have a got a nice little stash already. the slope will take you as far as you let it. some of us just happen to like the ride!!

The "Foot Locker" at Cheap Humidors was my first humi. great for storage. Don't think I have actually gotten 500 sticks in it, but it looks great and haolds up well.

Re: slope much?

The thing to remember about humi size is that the amount they say they will hold is based on a corona sized cigar. That's typically a 42-46 RG

Re: slope much?

Slope? Oh, yeah. Less than 12 hours ago, I said I wasn't in the market for any more smokes, or storage to put them in. Then I saw this: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...D68&cat=3&ci=1

For someone like me, who is looking for a wide variety of quality smokes to help find my "favorites", this is perfect. Too perfect to pass up, actually, so I just dropped the hammer on it. Twice. For me, that's basically 2 1/2 months worth of cigars, even if I didn't already have anything else to mix in with them. Quality brands and lines, all highly spoken of around these parts, for less than $3 apiece. And, there are enough of each one to get a real idea of what they're like. A sample size less than three doesn't seem to do it for me to feel confident in buying a whole box.

I may need professional help. And a cooler. I'm really, really done this time, I SWEAR! When you're collecting/acquiring things that are both inherently consumable and improve with age, that line in the sand becomes a moving target.

(Sigh...)

I tried the whole " I am going to have a budget" thing. It has yet to work out for me

Re: slope much?

I slope far too much. I have 2 200 count humis, a 150 quart cooler, a veno temp, and an end table humi. If I don't stop soon my wife is going to kill me, but I love the slope. I already have my purchases planed out for next month.
