Cigar tube idea (with pics)
Anyone ever seen what a 2 liter soda bottle looks like before it's formed into shape? They look like this:
![]() I ended up with a handful of these and had an idea... ![]() Sure enough, a Robusto fits exactly into it. ![]() This particular tube had the cap screwed on, removed, put back on, etc. When you first get the "bottle" the cap has its tamper-evident ring attached to the cap, and the first time you put the cap on it seats in place. This makes a cool way to gift a nice robusto size cigar. Or once the seal is broken on the cap, a nice way to carry one around in your pocket without crushing your stick. The tube is very thick and sturdy at this point because the plastic walls haven't been stretched out to their full bottle shape. Not sure on a good source for these, but here it is anyway. -Pete

Re: Cigar tube idea (with pics)
I worked at a plant installing some conveyor for dish soap bottles. But these tubes were to small for most cigars. Plus the caps were the type that stayed on the bottle and had the pull up to open and push down to close top.
If I ever get into a 2 liter bottling plant I'm defiantly going to get a few of these tubes. Its amazing how many of these tubes get recycled at the factory. Once they hit the floor, into the recycle bin they go, but they would still be great for a cigar.

They come in green as well. I had several clear ones from a friend of a friend who worked at a injection molding plant. I won't mention what I used mine for, but it could hold an oz. compressed.

Re: Cigar tube idea (with pics)
I used to work at Ball Plastics which makes plastic soda bottles. The plastic preforms are made in a injection press and they make literally millions of them a day. I still have friends of mine that work there and I am sure I could get as many as I would like for anyone that is interested.
Working there I was shocked to see how much soda is actually being drank in the U.S. Just an example The Ball Plastics plant in Ames, Iowa makes 5 million bottles every 24 hours. Ball Plastics has 4 total plastic plants across the U.S. and so all together that is 20 million bottles every 24 hours. You would think that is a lot but believe it or not Ball Plastics only has a 2.5% market share when it comes to plastic bottles.

Those look like they would be perfect for gifting some cigars. I would like to get a few if some become available.

Re: Cigar tube idea (with pics)
I would think it could hold humidity as they are made to hold soda and keep it carbonated

That cigar should be in your mouth being smoked, not in a tube!

Re: Cigar tube idea (with pics)
I could get the 2 liter preforms but not the caps. At Ball Plastics the preforms are made then the bottles are made and a label is attached but then they are palletized and taken to the warehouse. The caps are not applied until the bottles reach the Pepsi or Coke filler. That is also how winning contest caps are tracked. The company knows exactly which filler what pallet and what store the caps are at so when you call in a winning cap (for large prizes) and that information does not match up with their information they know they have a fraud.
Like I said I can probably get all the preforms you all would like but the caps you would have to get from a retail 2 liter bottle.
