Books about cigars
I want to learn more about cigars.
Does a comprehensive, up to date book that provides a good overview of everything "cigar" exist? Sort of like "The Joy of Cooking" does for cooks. I'm less interested in a description of brands than learning about the types of tobacco used, manufacturing processes, storing, aging, history of the indutry etc. etc. Thanks! |

Re: Books about cigars
I picked up the Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars. I hate the name but it only cost like $16 or so and so far I really really like it. I've learned a lot from it so far - and from ClubStogie of course! It's pretty comprehensive at about 350+ pages. I'm currently halfway through the book.

Re: Books about cigars
Cigar Companion (Connoisseur's Guides) - I have that book, it is very comprehensive and even has reviews in it.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars, 2nd Edition - We did a book pass with this book and I think it was nearly worthless, had some small information in there, but some very misleading advice/facts. The Cigar Companion: The Connoisseur's Guide - Also own this book, it is a decent read, far more informative than the Complete Idiots Guide, but not as good as the first one. You can get them all from Amazon.com or half.com used and for a total of around $30 or less probably. Happy Reading

Re: Books about cigars
I posted this on CS a bit ago, but I really enjoyed reading it and couldn't put it down (and I'm not an avid reader these days):
http://www.amazon.com/Select-Enjoy-P.../dp/0964999803 "How to Select and Enjoy Premium Cigars" by Dale Scott. A local B&M gave me this on borrow when I first started getting interested earlier this year. A very easy, good and informative read. Dale Scott posts articles in many cigar publications. |

Re: Books about cigars
If you're more interested in CCs, give this a try:
An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post Revolution Havana Cigars by Min Ron Nee. Many consider it to be the Bible of the cigar world. I'm still amazed everytime I open it. |

Re: Books about cigars
The Ultimate Cigar Book by Richard Hacker. It's out of print but if you can find it it's a good read.
