Happened to me last night with a Zino something. It was truly awful. It tasted like the tobacco had only been watered with the water they use to soak feet for pedicures. I only lasted about an inch into it.

If I'm not enjoying it because of the stx itself I pitch it. If it's the situation I'm smoking in I'll change the situation. It rarely happens cause there's a time & place for All cigars.

Not very long at all. Maybe the first third if it's lucky. Since the baby came along, smoke time is at a premium for me, so if the stick sux, it's gone and I'm grabbing another one pronto!

I've been known to toss them after the first draw -

I will try to let it settle after lighting, and if no go, sometimes I will cut the stick to about the halfway point (having already decided to pitch it), relight and see if the flavor profile changes.
More often than not, the answer is ... No.

I smoke relatively few cigars per year and at least twice recently I suffered through two quite expensive cigars - one was a plugged Cuban and one was an over humidified PAM - and lived to regret both.

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
Most of the time I will attempt to smoke through the first third to see if the flavor profile changes. If it stays the same or gets worse it's gone. I'm not about to use what little relaxation time I have to suffer through a turd.

I smoked thru all the cigars...ok most of the cigars I have ever lit.
I have smoked the whole cigar even if I didn't like it. As for hard to draw, stay lit, etc...I muddle thru it all and for the most part the cigar shines thru. Except for perhaps taste. They just don't get better, I just think I won't buy any of these again. |

I will give a cigar 3/4 of an inch. If it taste like
, I will toss it. In Jan. 2008, I tossed 3 DPG Blues within 10 minutes. Something was wrong with those Joe Cigar sticks. I still have some of them, and they taste like . All my other DPG Blues are amazing.Life is too short to smoke bad cigars!! |

I smoke about a third.....or until it turns to crap then toss it. I have way too many cigars to waste my time smoking something I don't like.

Heh heh Have been there before but if I paid more than $7 for the stick I will tough it out and try to find something positive about it. Usually, a good drink will bring back some enjoyment.

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
I don't know whether it's an extreme lack of sophistication, or extraordinary good luck, but in the approx 100 cigars I've had in the last three months, I haven't had one that was really and truly "bad". I've had two, maybe three that I've pitched due to excessive burn or draw problems. The very worst of the 100 just don't really have much flavor to them, except for the tobacco flavor, but I like tobacco (shrugs). They aren't the ones you hand out when someone gets married or has a baby or gets their PhD, and I wouldn't buy them again, knowing what I know now, but even so, they're still not
-inducing dog turds, not by a long shot. But, I'm also willing to admit that I may just have a case of whatever is the opposite of "buyer's remorse", if that has a name. I really couldn't say. I've actually been thinking about this a lot, lately. I'd like to think it's minimal, but how much or our opinion of a particular cigar is really just subjective, purely ancillary BS that doesn't really have anything to do with the actual cigar? Where you bought it, what you paid for it, where, when, and with whom you smoked it, what your expectations were, how you felt at the time, mentally and physically, what kind of day you had at work, that kind of thing. That's a lot of complexity, and you haven't even lit anything yet. And the cigars, themselves? Plants, weather, fermenters, blenders, rollers, inspectors, owners, shippers, distributors, they're all changing, all the time. Any one of them can radically change the cigar you are lighting up. You may not care for a cigar that you liked a lot, just a year ago, and one that you really hated four years ago may not be even remotely like the same one being made today. The complexities of the cigars, layered on top of the complexities of being living, thinking human beings. I'm totally fascinated by people's beliefs and opinions, and especially how they came to them, and how much of it we're not even conscious of. Hope I didn't bore anyone to death. I'd feel terrible. |

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
I think you should smoke 1/3. Sometimes you may also consider smoking another one of the same blend if it is something that has several positive reviews. (May have been a bad stick or you may have had a drink or ate something that may effect the taste)

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
If I am reviewing it, then I will suffer through it. I feel that I have to push through it in order to be fair.
If it is just for me, though, then I will most likley pitch it. Luckily I haven't really run across too many.
