I force myself to smoke every smokable inch no matter how painful an experience it is.
but then again, i'm an accomplished masochist.

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
I smoke 'em all to the end. I generally research any purchase so I'm pretty sure it will be a good cigar and if the first half isn't doing it for me, I still smoke it to the end just for "research" if nothing else.
I smoked my least favorite cigar in many, many years (Camacho perfecto) to the end just to see if it had any redeeming value. Answer: none. It was a long way to the end and was just as bad at the end as it was in the beginning. I've found that, on most cigars I smoke, I like the last third the best so like to stick it out if possible. Big mistake with the Camacho. WyoBob

Depends on what you mean by not enjoying
If you mean that it is a quality cigar but just not your taste, then I smoke it all. Kind of like going to an Indian restaurant or a vegan place when you try something. It doesn't particular taste great. Not enjoying it. But it is quality food and you want to expand your experiences. I mean really none of us took our first sip of beer at 10 years old and went "yeah that's awesome" or coffee. But you aquire tastes. If its a straight up dog rocket. Bitter. Hot burning. Nasty turd. Then I might give it about a third to half way. |

If I am not enjoying the smoke at the half-inch mark, it gets tossed. Or more aptly, spiked.

I set my personal record yesterday. Pitched one maybe an inch into it. Wasn't drawing right, tasted bad, etc. Through it right into the drink and went inside and got something else.
I think I'm learning from those of you that say life is too short. Solid advice. |

Agreed (but for the Havana LR Fig). I was gonna light up the Conn but figured since I had a full stomach and it was late in the day, I would give the Havana a go (I love the darker wrappers). Anyways, what a great smoke.....and man can that thing hold an ash. I has it all the way to the beginning of that taboo label before I put it down because the gf was calling me. I came back outside (it was spitting rain (very humid)) to smoke the rest and take a picture of the ash and once I picked it up the ash fell off.....damn humidity! Plus the cigar (it was down to its last 1/3rd) had gotten so moist from the humidity I basically couldn't smoke the rest....what a shame! Anyways, the first 2/3rds were great. Next time I will stay glued to my seat for the whole show.

Like many others, I'll usually try to get through the first third. If it ain't doin' it for me after that, I'll pitch it.

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
I'm have only been smoking cigars regularly for about 3-4 months. Only off and on the past 12 years. I have never chunked a cigar without finishing, cause I'm cheap, untill this past weekend. My uncle gave me some Free Cuba torpedos. Thought I would give it a shot while mowing the lawn. Got about an inch in and there was now way I could continue. I didn't think it could be that bad, I was wrong. If it is a "tolerable" stick I will hang in there. Free Cuba, chunk them before you light 'em. The only way I could describe the tase would be amonia and fish. yum!

I generally read reviews or ask opinions (those of similar taste) before purchasing anything. If I buy it, I smoke it 'till the end.

Re: Third times the charm/ How long will you deal with a stick you are not enjoying?
I have learned over the years to avoid the hype and now purchase only those cigars I truly enjoy. The exception is new ones I buy or am gifted to try. As soon as I realize that I'm not enjoying one of those they get tossed doesn't matter where it came from or what it cost. Life is to short.
