I have smoked with Jim Thorpe (the golfer, not the dead guy!) and Fuzzy Zoeller. I have given a cigar to Rick Pitino and Pappa John Schnatter but didn't get to smoke with them.

I presume it wasn't Mickey Rooney? We fans of old movies want to know.

For my own experience, I had the opportunity to twice enjoy conversation and cigars with Dirk Benedict (orig Battlestar Galactica, A-Team) (TV). He had/has a place on Flathead Lake, and was a regular, if infrequent visitor to the local B&M in Kalispell, which at that time was owned by a good friend of mine. He was born in Helena, Montana, and grew up in White Sulphur Springs, and is still pretty much a Montana boy.

The first time he showed up, I happened to already be there playing cribbage with Lou (the owner). I recognized him right off, and simply greeted him with a "Hello, Dirk," while Lou called him something unprintable. Dirk's grin was from ear to ear and he replied in kind. We all lit up and then settled in for some serious conversation, primarily grousing about the stupid prices of real estate, both in Montana, and in California. He was there for a couple of hours, and it was great fun.

The second time was under simiilar circumstances, but he did not stay as long and the conversation was consequently limited.

My wife was working when George Lucas came into Waldenbooks many moons ago. Does that count?

I feel very lucky I have enjoyed several smokes with the Padron family and spent hours with Jose O Padron himself.

Re: Ever Smoke With A Celebrity?

I used to work at a retail Gun shop / police supply shop in the Baltimore area. When Homicide was on NBC, we used to supply them with prop guns and police equipment. I walked in to work one Saturday morning, and Ned Beatty, who was a cast member at the time, was standing at the counter drinking coffee with my coworkers. Ned is a shooter, so he came in to look around. For a couple of years, whenever the cast was in town filming, he was a regular fixture at the shop on Saturday mornings. One of the nicest, most friendly guys I have ever met.

I guess I smoked AT a celebrity once. I was at a Sunday morning brunch party at the Harbor Court hotel in Baltimore. My brother and I, and our wives, went to the hotel bar (which was very cigar friendly at the time) to smoke. The bar was empty except for a few of the Homicide cast members sitting at a table after their lunch. We went over to say hello, and Richar Belzer started waving his arms and said something like "Ugh, you're smoking a CIGAR!" I did move my cigar away, and he and the other guys (Kyle Secor and another actor whose name escapes me) were actually pretty nice.

Had a cigar with Gorgegous George Hamilton at his (now closed) cigar bar at New York New York in Las Vegas. Also had a cigar with Mathew McConaughey and his brother, but like so many posts before me, I dont think his was a cigar.

Re: Ever Smoke With A Celebrity?

Shared cigars and drinks with Steve Saka one evening after a big herf at JR's in Whippany. He was still a NH resident at that time, so we spent the evening discussing local politics, cigars and booze. A great evening!

Jeremy Giambi (Jasons bro) for an afternoon while the Cards were playing the Yanks. He was at the Ritz-Carlton Cigar Club and I just happened to be in there smoking as well. Very nice guy!
