Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

This is a discussion on Cost of your "everyday" cigars... within the General Cigar Discussion forums, part of the The Cigar Lounges at Puff category; I've found that I can consistently buy cigars I like in the $2-$3 range. So I guess that's my answer....

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I'm not really sure. I'm terrible at prices.
I was smoking a lot of Sancho Panzas for quite awhile and they aren't but 2 bucks a pop. Now I'm smoking my way through a pile of $.50-$1.00 cigars.
I'm almost through with a few different boxes of $10-$12 cigars.
I guess I really don't pay any mind to the "how much?" once they're bought. I just put them away and enjoy whatever jumps out at me.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

Lately I've been smoking Taboo TR Torpedo's on a daily basis becsaue they are a great bang for the buck, and 2-3 times a week I smoke one of my Cubans.

I smoke at least 2 cigars a day, and on weekend, up to 4 a day in the summer....in tyhe winter I slow down a bit although I have a great area in the house other than the garage where I smoke.

I don't really look at the price per cigar because I only buy boxes, and they usually vaiy between $80-$200 for non-cubans and there is no limit for my cuban purchases which I purchase up to 20-25 boxes a year by going to Cuba or when friends visit the island. I rarely buy cigars in Canada because of their outragous prices up here...

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

When I can.. I try to have at least a cigar a day. I like the Onyx Reserve... about 2 bucks a stick.. I like Corona size cigars... about 5 to 6 inches x 42 to 45 ring gauge in size. I also like Sancho Panza.. good stuff.. and I often try the bundle specials that Famous Smokes and J&R Cigars offers... right now.. I have 50 lonsdale size maduros called Flora De Baloney from JR's... got all 50 for under 49.99 so I am hoping they ease up a bit in my dor... right now. its a mix between... sage brush and dried fall leaves.. but I am hoping

Also on the 1 to 3 dollars sticks... if the fellow Gorillas could give some brand names.. I know I would appreciate it.. still looking to find the inexpensive everyday cigar.

I have an idea what they cost, but it doesn't seem to matter anymore.

Grab and go works for me.

FWIW $3-$8

(2) What do you think is the right cost for an "everyday" cigar. In my very limited experience, you can get some pretty decent sticks online for around $4.00 or $5.00 -- is that high or low for an "everyday" cigar?

Thanks!
My everyday cigar runs about $2 - $4. I try to keep it in the 2.50 range most days.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I'm a weekend warrior and only smoke several cigars a week, so I smoke whatever tickles my fancy. That said, I have a humi full of sticks ranging from $3 on up. So I just open the humi, pick a cigar, clip it and light it. If I smoked everyday, I'd be more concerned about smoking good value cigars.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I only smoke a cigar about 3 times a week so I guess I don't have a daily smoker. So with my cost savings, I generally go to a Padron 26 or 64

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I only smoke 1 cigar a day so I would not consider anything an "everyday" cigar unless I enjoy it; not into medicore yard cigars.

Cost is relative for everyone; some people make more money and have more disposable income, others have children so there are a variety of factors but it all comes down to how much you can spend. $4 or $5 is on the low side for me, I find myself buying and smoking more Hemingways than anything else. I'm still trying many cigars though so I've gone to different B&M's to buy a good variety which is pretty damn expensive with California's 40% tabacco tax so I'm spending around $8+.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I get about 80% of my stuff on C-bid and hardly ever spend $5/stick. For example, my haul ATM to be shipped tomorrow....5 Perdomo Cammie robustos for $11 (all 5!....that might be my best score ever), a fiver of RP Connecticuts also for $11, 10 Perdomo sungrown toros for $26, a fiver of RyJ Habano belicosos for $17. And I've got a couple more things rolling tonite that will end soon. So, $2.60 per stick for some very good smokes (for me anyway). Cbid has been very good to me this week...it sure ain't always like this.

Wow -- these are definitely some interesting replies. I realize it's personal to every person, which is exactly why I was asking: I just thought it'd be interesting to see what everybody considered an "everyday" cigar.

For me personally, I try to stay right around $5.00/stick for cigars just to smoke for the hell of it. I find that you can do that pretty easily if you look around online.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

I have different groups. I have dozens of <$2.50, many of which are more like $1. I rarely smoke more than one a day, and if I do the 'extra' will usually be one of the cheapies. I have another bunch in the $2.50 - $6 that are much better and are my nightly treats. Then, there's another box of mixed singles that are what I would consider another tier higher and I'll have one of those a week, or so. The only ones I have that are really expensive are the ones I bought from the local B&M and seriously overpaid for. The local communists have jacked up our tobacco taxes to terrifying levels.

Re: Cost of your "everyday" cigars...

Welcome to the Jungle!

I smoke between 3 and 8 cigars a day, depending on if I'm at work or not (more at work obviously). I feel that there is really no such thing as a go-to stick. If you truly enjoy a stick, and you have some you aren't really saving for anything special, smoke them! I smoke a lot of La Flor Dominicana sticks (around 6-9 bucks a stick) and I smoke a lot of AVO Domaine's (8-10 a stick). Sometimes I'll feel the craving and bust out something like a Factory Press or LG Small Batch (yearly limited release sticks that are usually around 12 and 16 dollars respectively) or some of my harder to get stash and enjoy nothing but those all day.

My point being, I feel cost should only factor on what you buy, not what you enjoy. Buy whatever you think is the best deal for your money, but don't be afraid to bring your average price up to around $10 a day, especialy if you smoke less than two a day on average.

If you have the budget, don't buy 50 cigars for $2 each and sit on them for 3 months smoking them slowly because you have them sitting there. Buy 20 sticks for $5 each and smoke them over the month then get more the next month when you're out.

Cigars are meant to be enjoyed, so kick back and enjoy whatever you like that you can afford, and don't worry about price. Remember, good things come around, especially in this jungle!
