Is it just the name that turns you off?

Ok, I'll do my part in starting yet another thread. The intention is only to ask if the new name of puff.com is one of the main reasons you don't look forward to the change? In other words, if the name was something more acceptable (but not Club Stogie) would you have a better outlook? "Club Stogie" is a pretty cool name I admit, but does the name make the place and the people in it?

For me, I would feel a little bit better if it was a different name, I don't have any ultra cool ideas for a new name or logo/mascot, but I keep telling myself if it just wasn't puff.com.

To jump along with you, did you fall in love with "Club Stogie" and "Louie" at first sight, or over time did the people/knowledge/experiences make you fall for them?

There are some other issues I know, but there seems to be countless rant threads that have most of them listed.

I'll give you my as a relative noob. The reason that we are joking about the name among other things is that a bunch of us are a bit nervous. Many of us visited other forums before settling on this one for one reason or another. So after finding this forum, we come to hear there will be changes.
Some have outright rejected the changes, but others, like myself, have decided to take an more innocuous approach. There is really no harm in knocking the name, and it's just become a bit of fodder to help take the stress off of an otherwise tough time.
Plus, it's a funny name!

My problem is that large forums become to unwieldy to keep track of and it becomes harder to form relationships due to all the extra noise. I used to be on ar15.com everyday till about 4 years ago when it rapidly expanded and a topic started in General is on the second page in ten minutes. I found this forum to be just the right size. Oh well, I'm sure I'll still be checking in here but spending more time elsewhere if that turns out to be the case.

For the most part, yeah, it's the name.

I came here because Uniputt was kind enough to tell me about the site. I'd seen links to Herfers Paradise in my cigar infoquest, but back then I didn't know what a herfer was...

Otherwise, it's the change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm not saying you can't make improvements, but whether or not they are improvements is subjective.

The name is a really bad choice. I cant visit the website from a public computer because puff is the german word for whorehouse and i am not going to access a homepage with such a name at the public place (its probably blocked anyway).
A merger can be good or bad and only time will tell.

I don't like the name but Jon owns the board and he can do as he wishes. I will stay aboard unless/ until the board itself changes from what we have now.

Look the new owner wants to call it puff.com, it's his money that he is putting up and I feel that it is the community that makes the site anyway. CS will always be CS if we participate and give it the right feel. Puff.com is just the key to enter, but since it will be a collaboration of several sites it has to have a name different from Club Stogie. That is so we can keep the CS forum alive it needs a different entry point name. I don't have a problem with the name since it is the BOTL that make the site special in the first place. Let's see what Jon can provide and see what comes from the new combined site IMHO.

My is that the name does not matter much to me. I didn't really care for the name Club Stogie or the look of this forum when I first came on. It was the people and the culture here that drew me in. A name change does not effect what matters The people are the same and the same culture can exist. Now if I cannot access it from work because the firewall blocks it, that will piss me off. And I do worry about the culture changing, but the name is secondary.
