Don Pepin Garcia My Father

(Don Pepin Garcia My Father - Ah maybe not!) Thanks Boonedoggle. You saved me the pleasure of gripeing about the price and less than adequate taste. Problem is that the folks that make a name for themselves are now making a buck on that name without improving on the cigars experience. It's a shame IMHO!

I tried the lancero - it had a kind of "cigarette" quality to it. Not enjoyable at all; tossed it at the half-way point.

Namesakes definatley make me shy away at times. Like Oliveros "XL for Men." They should just save me some time and call it the "Turdsicle."

Re: Don Pepin Garcia My Father

This cigar is Don Pepin's best; with the blend of Tatuaje falling off and Pete Johnson having Pepin push out more and more lines for him, I thought it was necessary for Pepin to come out with something new for himself. Obviously San Cristobal was for ashton, the My Father was crucial to keep Pepin's interests in his own lines. As far as the quality and taste of this cigar goes it is by far Don Pepin's best cigar. The smoke is so clean but with a lot of flavor. Not to mention the perfect quality of the draw and construction. With the price-tag still under Pete Johnson's Tatuaje cabinet series and in close contention with the price of the Serie JJ I believe Don Pepin(and his son) hit a home run on this cigar.

Was that off of Pepin website or some other website like CI. I know his son blended this cigar for his dad, most people think Pepin blended it because it is a Pepin stick.

But I agree on price and taste. I only bought a couple of these (because of price) to try when they first came out. I didn't really enjoy the first one at all so the other has just sit in my humidor. Maybe age will make it better.

Average smoke, not nearly DPGs best. He is human - maybe.

WOW! That is a pretty bold statement...but good enough to make me want to try one in the near future!

And this is my favorite DPG. Pricey but I love them. The Lancero and the Belcoso. It's all personal opinion. Remember that. For everyone that likes it, there is one that doesn't. I don't like the blue and black labels. Oh well. More for you and more My Father for me...

I wasn't real impressed with it myself. They are supposedly flying off the shelves at my B&M but I couldn't figure out why.

I also enjoy the My Father. While a little on the expensive side, a good quality smoke IMO. I have a few resting in my humi.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia My Father

Haven't tried it but would like to. I agree there is sort of a disparity with the price/performance of some of his cigars. The El Centurion was so average to me, and the 601 greens and Cubaos blow me away (for much less!). I bought a box of the El Triunfadors for about 6/stick and I'm really happy with them at that price, but I think I would have been disappointed had I paid full MSRP.

DPG isn't a god, he's a cigar maker. He puts out some great cigars and some ho-hum ones.
