Got a Thompson catalog today...

Whoever writes the ad copy for their house brand cigars should become a political speech writer. I swear, these folks can make a turd sound like a candy bar.

"A combination of lush long fillers and exquisitely chosen wrappers....."

How do you "exquisitely" choose something?

"Romana uses the most expensive wrapper in the world..."

"Whatever your favorite or expensive Dominican smoke, Montecristo, Partagas, Davidoff, Romeo y Julieta, you'll find an inexpensive but equally mild and flavorful match among the Thompson brands. These are the cigars upon which we have made our reputation, the ones our customers confirm as their perennial favorites."

"Wherever you go in the Dominican Republic, you'll see the locals light up El Artista Bambino."

!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I know, some people must like their cigars. But come on, this stuff is pure comedy.

I think that's when you pick it with your pinky out and a big smug grin on your face.

I remember when I first started smoking cigars I used to order the Thompson brand cigars. I didn't know any better.

Now looking back, their Thompson cigars are horrendous. I can't believe I smoked those!

That's because CA is crazy. I wouldn't ship there if I were them either. CA will probably sue any and all net cigar sellers soon enough.

I find this card quite exquisite, and it involves choosing.

I live in California and have ordered from Thompson a few times. They certainly do ship to California. What they won't do, is ship to a PO Box, since doing so is against the law here.

I use mine for fire starting. That's about all it is good for. I've noticed that their prices are way more expensive than other online sites as well.

This was just last Xmas, my parents tried to order cigars for me as a present and Thompson said they would not ship to California. This may have something to do with the order being placed from another stste.....

I too have smoked a Thompson brand cigar. I don't feel bad about myself though. It got me into cigars and I've since grown into a much smarter buyer. I still order from Thompson's from time to time. Never a Thompson's brand anymore though.

Re: Got a Thompson catalog today...

I sheepishly admit that I just placed and received a Thompson's order.

I ordered a 15 piece Gurkha sampler that came with a free 20-ct humidor. It was $59. I'm happy with my purchase.

My first ever cigar order was a Thompson's sampler that came with about 15-20 cigars for less than $20. You know, that coupon they put in with the Sunday coupons. I was happy with that purchase, too.

The only drag is that they do pursue you like an ex-girlfriend who won't let it go.

Re: Got a Thompson catalog today...

I just recently moved a few months ago, haven't ordered from Thompson's in OVER a YEAR. I just got a new catalog at my NEW apartment!! They shouldn't even have this address! (And no, it wasn't the post forwarding it, they actually have the new address printed on the catalog!).

Re: Got a Thompson catalog today...

Thompson still sends me catalogs (I got one this week, in fact), even though my only order from them was well over a year ago. I totally agree about their ad copy. It's about the only reason to even read the catalog. They're not intending to be funny, but they still pull it off.
