Leave 'em on......keeps the cigars from getting damaged (I learned that after taking off the cello) and the cello breathes as if there were no cello on the cigars!

Re: Cello wrappers, leave them on or take off?
I would leave the cello on.
If you will be keeping them for a long period of time, definitely keep the cello on because it will help with the aging process. The natural oils will remain for a longer time. Also, if you have various types of cigars with different flavor profiles or strengths keeping the cello on will help to reduce the marrying of flavors. Evan

I always leave them on if they came with cello... they're permeable, and allow for protection of delicate wrappers.

Wouldnt the cello wick away the oils?

Re: Cello wrappers, leave them on or take off?
Nope...
Otherwise, no one would ship them/store them with cello. It's a tradition in Cuba that cigars not be celloed (with the exception of the machine made cigars), so those manufacturers who like to throw back to the Island South of Miami will not cello their cigars.

Re: Cello wrappers, leave them on or take off?
Can the dreaded beetle get out of the cello? I had some cigars gifted to me and one had a beetle in it when I received it and died in the cello. It never got out. Has anybody had any experience with this? I have read that it will certainly help any kind of beetle problems but I haven't seen any definitive answer on it.

Re: Cello wrappers, leave them on or take off?
I wouldn't use cello as a defense against beetles... they have been known to chew through the cellophane cigars come wrapped in.

My wife picked up a couple of flavored cigars from the B&M last week and one of them had a beetle in it. They were all in cello and none of the others had evidence of beetles. That could be coincidence, though, as the cello would probably be easy for them to get through. Also, I've bought some cigars that came in metal or plastic tubes with caps - those would likely prevent spread, I would think.

Leave them as they are from the manufacturer. I used to store all my cigars naked but now if they come with cello on them I leave them as is.

Re: Cello wrappers, leave them on or take off?
I hate cellos; I take them off right away, unless I'm sure I'm going to be bombing someone and then I leave them on so they're just a little bit more protected when shipping.
I worry that the cellos mixed with non-cello'd could damage the non-cello'd so I try to keep 'em all non-cello'd. And it smells so much better, is more apt to help marrying flavors and is easier just to grab & go (although if you don't have a travel case, it'd help having the cello on for protection in your shirt pocket...it's all up to personal preference I think. |
