Puerto Rico...

Ello...

I am off on my/our honeymoon in May (yes i'm getting ahead of myself!). We're going to Puerto Rico for about a week....

Does anyone have any "must-see" places for me that are cigar related...you know, factories, shops, bars etc.

Whole island suggestions are welcome as we'll be traveling around a bit.

Asking this now so there will be a lovely big list of places for me to visit when the time comes. I mean....what else am I going to do when I'm there....spend time with the new wife???!!!....(....OK....I probably will)

Let me know - and thanks!

Bring your own cigars. Prices there are expensive for anything good as they feed on the tourists.

See El Yunque (spelling?), the bio bay on Vieques, the sunday pork roast in the mountain region (forget the name, but just east of the center of the island), bacardi is an OK tour, Old San Juan is worth seeing, and you can have a cigar in several places there, but again, bring your own. Really, just having a cigar at night on the beach was the most relaxing for me.

Re: Puerto Rico...

Thanks....I will begin buying cigars now, and earmarking them for the honeymoon.

Anybody else out there with suggestions? Or is it all Tourist rip-off crap?

Thanks

Re: Puerto Rico...

El Borinqueno - Plaza D' arsenas -San Juan has some taste "barbershop pole" cigars, but NATIVO Tabacalera Los Indios has some nice cigars too. Real nice old man who will roll one for you - Pedro Mangual. His place is at Beingno Contreras #218 Bo. Dulces Labio, Mayaguez, PR.

But if you are going to be in San Juan - Don Collins Cigars (59 Cristo Street, Old San Juan).

Congratulatons!

Re: Puerto Rico...

Thanks...i'll add it to the list of places to visit.

I'll need this honeymoon just to relax! It's a hell of a stressful time between now and then. I know it will come fast though, hence me asking this now.

Re: Puerto Rico...

In addition to what has been mentioned, The Cigar House at the Doll House located at 255 Calle Fortaleza San Juan has a very very large selection of cigars. The last time I was there, they had more opus x cigars than I have ever seen short of factory photos. Don Collins is cool too. When you go into Don Collins, buy a bottle of Ron Del Barrilito Gold star Rum. It is less expensive there than at Duty Free. Where are you staying?

Re: Puerto Rico...

All of the above yes do bring your own cigars. There is a nice humidor in the Ritz Carlton, but expensive with nice selection. Gambling at the Ritz is good too. My parents use to live a couple buildings down from it. Good luck and have fun.

Re: Puerto Rico...

I don't want to bring you down but just so you know a believe it was last year they put into effect a smoking ban in public places (Restaurants, Bars, etc.) in P.R. However, you can still enjoy one on the beaches and just walking around which is also great. Hope you have a great time and enjoy the place. It is truly beautiful there. Las Cuevas de Camuy is pretty cool its a pretty cool cave system that they have tours of. Los phosphorescentes (sp?) the bio-illuminecent bay is also cool. Since its your honeymoon you two may also want to take a trip out to either culebra or vieques for a day/night.
