Breaking the silence

Hola all. This is my first post. I can't be sure when I found the site but I have been using it for some time now. We can all use a hand when contemplating a new cigar, can't we?

I am most definitely a value smoker now (twin 3 year olds in child care will do that to you). I do step out when I travel without the boys but around the house value cigars do just fine.

I do most of my buying at Famous now but I have used CI, JRs and Holts in the past. For what it is worth here are some of the value smokes that I like:
  • La Floridita maduros. I know some don't like the burn but they are serviceable and I like the taste.
  • Famous Nic 1000s. I wasn't too crazy about the sweet cap at first but they burn well, they are consistent and the taste has actually grown on me.
  • Finally with much hesitation I come clean and add Famous Honduran VL 600s. I haven't seen any reviews of these beauties and I am surpised. These come from Guillermo Rico. The picture on the website doesn't do them justice. I could just sit and stair at them all day long. In person they look that good. Alas, in my opinion they taste great and all for $24. I have been picking up at least a box of these a month. When they are gone, I want to have a decent stash.
Now down to the business. I was out at cigar.com earlier today and saw that they have these on clearance. http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=608
Does anyone know anything about these cigars. I am a gunslinger and not afraid to shoot from the hip. But I also realize that it could take a long time to burn through 50 nasty cigars. Also, what about cigar.com? Any opinions about them? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I am off.

James

Re: Breaking the silence

Welcome, glad to see you joined the jungle. I dont know anything about those cigars. I have looked at the site before but have never purchased from there. I would take my cash and go to cbid and try and get something with some history on it and some reviews. Good luck

Welcome James. Interesting time to join, that's for sure. Glad you came though. I can't personally help you with your question, but I'm sure some here can.

Re: Breaking the silence

No problem with cigar.com.

I'm the king of value smokes!

Tampa Sweethearts
AF Curly Head maduros
5 Vegas A
Sancho Panza double maduro

Try any of these and you'll be hooked. The last three can be had cheaply on cigarbid.com The Sweethearts are on the Tampa site.

Enjoy and welcome!

James,

I'm not familiar with the cigars specifically but I would say a wheel of 50 for 30 dollars is not a bad deal. I prefer to try a few first before buying a bundle. I was burned once and I won't make that mistake again.

Having said that I would try to get an opinion from the CS neighborhood first before I buy.

Re: Breaking the silence

I like the C-bid suggestion mentioned above. Just don't hit the Pepins right away... It will destroy your value smoke philosophy and pack your humidor faster than you can say "Cabaiguan."

Just trust me on this

James, If you are interested in value smokes try out some Flor de Olivas that they have at Famous. Great cheapies with some different blends and wrappers to choose from. For what they are (a bundle of 25 for ~$30-$35) they are great.

Re: Breaking the silence

I have to recommend the Costa Rican cigars. I enjoy them while cutting the grass. They are a good everyday outdoor cigar.

Re: Breaking the silence

Welcome James. I've had good experiences with cigar.com so far. Two orders from them have left me very satisfied. I know nothing about those bundles though. Good luck!
