I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
This is a new brand for me. I heard they were good, so I picked up a Comacho from my local tobacconist. Does anyone else on this board smoke them?
I'll return and post my thoughts/opinions in about an hour... |

Re: I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
Which Camacho did you pick up? Corojo? Havana? Those are the only two that I've found in my local shop and that I've had a chance to try so far. I like them both a great deal but I've found them to be very different. The Havana was a nice medium bodied smoke...I'd describe it as a mellow smoke (I realize that doesn't mean much - maybe it put me in mellow mood). I've only had one so far...had some sweet notes. The Corojo was a much stronger smoke in my opinion. I've had a few and they always go to my head. Either way they are both very enjoyable smokes. Let us know what you think.

Re: I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
OK, I'm back. MikeP, this was a Comacho Havana Churchill. Here is a recap of my experience:
I smoked this cigar on my back porch (a rather cool January evening in Memphis), with a glass of sangiovese (I wish now I had broken out the Glennfiddich, instead), while reading a primer on Calvinist theology (shorter westminster catechism). Upon lighting the cigar, at first I feared I had made a big mistake. I didn't like the taste at all. The cigar was not strong, but it had a very bitter taste to it. Kind of like my experience with Montecruz cigars a few years ago. It also smoked too much and took a while to really "get going". I smoked it quickly to get about a quarter inch of ash on the tip, then I sat it down for two minutes to let it cool off. When I picked it back up, there was a noticeable improvement. The bitter taste dissipated into a mellow, maybe even sweetish, flavor and proceeded to burn smoothly and evenly until the end. All in all, not a particularly distinctive cigar. Not bad, but also not worth the $5 I paid for it -- I don't think I'd put in the same category as a CAO Gold or a Punch Rare Corojo, which are similarly priced. |

Re: I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
craigchilds,
Lots of people like the Comacho's. I have had a few and found them to be ok smokes, but not something I gota run back to the B and M and get more of. I would not toss them out if I had some on hand, but nothing that I am going to look to get more of either. But different people like different things. Stacey |

Re: I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
What conditions does your B&M store sticks in? It sounds to me like it may have been a bit wet (your B&M is probably around 70% RH, as is mine), and I prefer to keep my humi/sticks at 65% RH, and many gorillas on here like it even lower. My recommendation would be to buy another, and let it sit in the humi for at LEAST a month before you smoke it, you might find you enjoy it more. Just my
. I have a corojo sitting in the humi resting from its long trip to me, waiting to be tried. I'm looking forward to it.

Re: I'm about to smoke a Comacho Churchill
That's a good point about the humidor. I think Cigar Depot keeps its cigars at 69% humidity. My humidor fluctuates between 65% and 72%, usually closer to the lower end of that range because I forget to fill it up once a month.
I have a box of Legends Series White Label cigars that were made by Comacho for Cigars International. I will let them sit for a month before I smoke them. You're right, that might make them more palateable. Thanks for the advice. |
