Loast Coast Death March!!!

I recently returned home from an extermely challenging coastal experience. The short of it: Three buddies and I took our rigid inflatable boat to a remote surf spot on the North Coast (Maiden Voyage). We got there and didn't have enough gas to make it back...frickin idiots, I know. I ended up hiking twenty miles there and back to get the gas for our return trip home. When I made it back to camp I was exhausted and half dead form this hell trip. My buddies handed m a cold "near beer" and my cigar caddy. I figured I was too tired to enjoy a top shelf cigar and opted for a #7 Don Mateo maduro. It turned out to be one of the best stogies I've had to date. These are definately an underrated cigar in my book.

WOW - RG for you for the 20-mile trek. One thing being a native Californian and having lost a friend to the powerful ocean, you can never underestimate our Pacific. I'm sure you lost a lot of fuel fighting those waves.

? for you: you did the work & hiked 20 miles & all they could hand you is NEAR BEER & your cigar caddy? I would have had a cow killed, steaks grilling & near perfectly rare the moment your steps were heard back in camp.

20 miles, that's a hell of a trek. I'm glad you made it back safe.

Quite a story!

Strange enough, in the spring when i bought my first bunch of cigars, The Don Mateo #7 was my fav. I don't really talk about it though, because they are so in-expensive I didn't think anyone would take me seriously in a cigar discussion.

I do remember them being of spotty quality. ie: some were better than others. I still buy them as a daily smoker, occasionally.
