Company party help....
So, I have my annual company party on Saturday night. Since this lil' hobby has hit me, I can't tell you how many people have asked whether I am going to bring some sticks to the gathering. I also saw in a thread, it was mentioned using Thompsons to hand out in such a situation for the "3 puff, I'm done" crowd.
With all of this said. If I was to run to my B&M (sorry no Thompsons Dog Rockets on hand) and grab a few sticks for these people, what should they be? I'd like to get something VERY cheap, but smokable, and extremely mild. I was debating on packing up a number of my Breva Royales, but if I can get away with something even cheaper, due to the throw away factor. This "cigar thing" seems to take on a life of its own, and I'd hate to be unprepared for anyone who'd like to try one, but I'm not handing out what will be in my coat pocket. Any suggestions welcomed, redirecting me to a previous thread also welcome ....I had no idea what to do a search for. Thanks!!! |

Re: Company party help....
One of my local B&M's has Rolys on hand. Bundle of 25 for something like $35 I think. Been awhile since I went to that particular B&M so that price might be wrong but Rolys are pretty cheep.

Re: Company party help....
cheap is good, but you don't want to be known for handing out $hitty cigars....especially if other cigar smokers will be there. Get a box of Fuente 8-5-8's, Short Stories, or Chateau Fuente robustos. All can be had for under $100 bucks a box.

The two puffs and I am done is because you gave out crappy cigars. Short Stories are a good idea!

Too bad you don't have more time. Got an email this morning from Famous. The Fuentes are on sale for $40 and change.

Casa Torano would be my pick - these are affordable, taste great, have a great looking band, and look like a traditional cigar. You also can't go wrong with Macanudos, they have name recognition, are pretty mild for the non-cigar smokers.

Don't get La Aroma de Cuba Corona Minors because that will deplete my supply.

Re: Company party help....
Does anyone else think that it is exceptionally rude of co-workers to ask or expect someone to bring cigars for them to smoke? I think to do so is in poor taste. If one wanted to smoke, instead of asking if someone else is going to bring his personal stash, bring your own! If one does not have a personal stash, ask for a recommendation.
Generally, I'm a sharing type, just not in this situation. If I happen to be at a bar, with friends after work for example, I would gladly share what I had with me if someone were to ask. If this were the case, I wouldn't feel as though someone expected me to provide them with a smoke. CA has a book (don't remember the title) with the history of cigars, ratings, and what amounts to a FAQ. They state that in this scenario, look out for yourself. If these individuals are close friends, then I'd say hook them up. Friends always hook eachother up. But, if these people are merely co-workers, let them bring their own. |

Re: Company party help....
I'll second (or third) the Fuente Curlyhead Deluxe Maduro's...I have a box in my humi now. I know these will be well below $3 a stick at your B&M however, so go for it!

There seems to be many stupid people on here today. Though, if you do I'd say the Curly Heads as well. You need to stay cheap but good taste.

Re: Company party help....
I'm always the guy passing out cigars at parties. That's ok, though--it's better than being the guy that always passes out at parties.
I think that any natural Fuente is a good choice. Also, if your local B&M carries Private Stock, those are good mild cigars. I usually throw in a few of whatever I happen to be smoking that night as well. Then, when people ask for a cigar, if I know they're a smoker and can handle whatever I'm smoking, I give them one of those. If I don't know their comfort levels, I ask them if/what they've smoked and then suggest a milder smoke that I just happened to have brought along This way, people are more likely to enjoy what you've given them, finish it, and maybe smoke more in the future (of their own choosing and paid for out of their own wallets). |
