Clensing your palette - smoking two in a row?

So here is something I am curious about. Many times at night if I have a couple of hours free time I will smoke one cigar - finish it - and then want to smoke a 2nd.

But occasionally depending on the two smokes - the flavors dont mix very well.

What I am curious about is what techniques (if any) do you use inbetween smokes so that you can enjoy the unique flavor of each without any crossover?

Keep in mind you might not be at home but at a friends - in a bar - etc

Shoot Jon, I'd say cleanse the palate with a beer, glass of wine, coffee or a bite in between, probably what I'd do.

If I smoke back to back, I'm usually drunk. When drunk, I don't need to worry as much about palate cleansing. But a straight shot of whiskey, swirl it around on your tongue for a bit, should do the trick.

Cheese, eat lots of cheese!

But seriously, I like coffee, Scotch, wine.. Almost anything like that will help. I also try to plan what I am going to smoke. If I pick out two, I pick one that may be stronger or more peppery for the last .

I find a mix of cheese and some citrus completely cleans my palate of any distinct flavors. YMMV but I have never had an issue if I drink a little OJ or eat a few pieces of orange and some cheese (mostly hard cheeses, no brie) and I am good to go.

Coffee, Ginger, cucumber, or wheat bread all cleanse the pallet

Re: Clensing your palette - smoking two in a row?

Coca cola. almonds and chocolate are good cleansers I was told by Eddie Ortega of E&O cigars.
I also dound that smoking a few puffs on a kahlua cigar ...what are they called now...Tropical Estates? did winders to cleanse my palate when I was trying the 601 and Cubao line...
Some strong stuff there but the kahlua smoothed the way.
There was no coke or others to cleanse.
I now carry chocolate and almonds to a smoking event.
Regards
Tom

Re: Clensing your palette - smoking two in a row?

If I really need my palate cleansed I will have some water with a wedge of lemon squeezed in it. Of course I usually just start with a milder smoke and progress to the stronger ones.

Any sweet candy and a glass of ginger ale does it for me.

you may have been playing but hard cheeses seem to coat the palate and the acidity of citric acid seems to strip it off. It basically works like masking tape as a lint remover IMHO. Also, I experimented a lot because I like cheese.

Re: Clensing your palette - smoking two in a row?

I quarter a lime, bite down on one of the quarters, and drink some water. The citris removes a lot of flavors in my mouth. Might be the reason why a lot of cleaners say they use citris from lemon/limes.

Re: Clensing your palette - smoking two in a row?

I drink beer while smoking cigars and never have this problem. I just don't jump to the next cigar immediately. And the beer inbetween is enough to cleanse the palate.

For me, this never works.
Even when I smoke the same blend/size, the flavor of the second one just doesn't "work" for some odd reason.

I always have to give myself a few hours in between to really clean out the taste of the other. And if I don't have the few hours to spare, I just skip it knowing that the cigar will always be there the next time I want to smoke.

Some have suggested using very dark chocholate or a spoonful of peanut butter but even that doesn't seem to work very well for me.
