Re: Cigars wet by activation solution
I always thought the water in activation solution was what was given off, not the PG.
![]() So if you use activation solution, which I have used at one point in time, your cigars are not really absorbing PG. PG helps maintain the humidity and prevents mold growth on the sponge, while the 50% water actually humidifies the humidor. That is why when you recharge your sponge after using activation solution, you are suppose to rechange with just water, then every 3-4 times, you actually rinse out the PG thoroughly and start over with fresh activation solution. If you continually add activation solution, the percentage of PG will be too high as the water is given off. It has been a while since I used this stuff, so maybe I am mistaken. ----- I would make sure the humidor dries thoroughly or you could get some mold on the wood (this really sucks from what I have heard). I would make sure the cigars are no longer damp and just leave them in the humidor. After six months or a year, try smoking one to see how it tastes and burns. If it smokes good great, if it tastes like toss them out, no real loss at that point in time (unless you are short on space).

Re: Cigars wet by activation solution
The above is what I have come to understand as well. It's the same reason sometimes I have read about making sure you only add water to pre-charged humidifiers and not 50/50 "activating solution". Supposedly the PG basically functions like salt and absorbs and gives off water as needed...

That does bring up another method of saving the cigars, just let them sit and eventually the PG should evaporate out. Could take a long time, though. |

Re: Cigars wet by activation solution
There is nothing in the propylene glycol that will hurt you, that is why it is safe as a food additive.
Just let those smokes dry out slowly, and smoke em. If they burn or taste weird, just chuck em.....it will give you a reason to visit cbid again. Can you hear??? Its calling you.

Re: Cigars wet by activation solution
Thanks everyone. I'll give them a shot in a few months. Worst case, I'll give them to my mooching buddies when we are golfing. I do need to stay away from CBid though, I'm already in trouble. I went from a 20 count to a 200 count, and filled it, in a month.

Hmm... anal lube, Tang. Throw in some rum and a little paper umbrella.
